| RRP Titles Comprise: Friday the 13th: Camp Crystal Lake has a bad history. A history drenched in blood. For over 20 years no-one has disturbed its deathly silence... until now. Often imitated but never equalled Friday The 13th is a relentless exercise in sustained terror. Unlike the luckless teenagers who go to Camp Crystal Lake it will live forever as the most shocking film of its kind. The Exorcist: The belief in evil - and that evil can be cast out. From these two strands of faith author William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin wove The Exorcist the frightening and realistic story of an innocent girl inhabited by a malevolent entity. Academy Award winner Friedkin who introduces the film and supervised this new video transfer from restored picture and audio elements gets effective performances from Linda Blair Ellen Burstyn Jason Miller Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb. The Exorcist remains 25 years later one of the most shocking and gripping movies ever made. Poltergeist: Suburbanites Steve (Nelson) and Diane (Williams) suddenly experience paranormal activity in their home. What begins as minor excitement quickly turns into nasty ghostly encounters. The disappearance of their daughter Carol Anne (O'Rourke) forces the Freelings to bring in parapsychologists and a professional exorcist to exorcise their home. Directed by Tobe Hooper and featuring Oscar Nominated Visual Effects by Richard Edlund Michael Wood and Bruce Nicholson Poltergeist is one of the most entertaining horror films of its time. The Shining: Think of the greatest terror imaginable. Is it a monstrous alien? A lethal epidemic? Or as in this harrowing masterpiece from Stanley Kubrick is it fear of murder by someone who should love and protect you - a member of your own family? From a script he co-adapted from the Stephen King novel Kubrick melds vivid performances menacing settings dreamlike tracking shots and shock after shock into a milestone of the macabre. In a signature role Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance who's come to the elegant isolated Overlook Hotel as off-season caretaker with his wife (Shelley Duvall) and son (Danny Lloyd). Torrance has never been there before - or has he? The answer lies in a ghostly time warp of madness and murder.
Ocean's Eleven | HD DVD | (05/11/2007)
from £34.99
| Saving you £-9.00 (N/A%)
| RRP Ocean's Eleven improves on the 1960's Rat Pack original with supernova casting, a slickly updated plot and Steven Soderbergh's graceful touch behind the camera. Soderbergh reportedly relished the opportunity "to make a movie that has no desire except to give pleasure from beginning to end", and he succeeds on those terms, blessed by the casting of George Clooney as Danny Ocean, the title role originally played by Frank Sinatra. Fresh out of jail, Ocean masterminds a plot to steal $163 million from the seemingly impervious vault of Las Vegas's Bellagio casino, not just for the money but to win his ex-wife (Julia Roberts) back from the casino's ruthless owner (Andy Garcia). Soderbergh doesn't scrimp on the caper's comically intricate strategy, but he finds greater joy in assembling a stellar team (including Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Carl Reiner) and indulging their strengths as actors and thieves. The result is a film that's as smooth as a silk suit and just as stylish. --Jeff Shannon On the DVD: Ocean's Eleven on disc is hardly swarming with special features, but just like all good heists it's quality not quantity that counts. The cast commentary is lively and it's nice to hear intelligent comments coming from Hollywood's big league for a change. However, it's the director and writer's commentary that is the real gem; it's funny, enlightening and most of all it allows Ted Griffin to put the case forward for all screenwriters across the world as to the importance of their craft. The main feature has an impressive transfer of sound and visuals, making the suits sharper and David Holmes' soundtrack even funkier. --Nikki Disney

| RRP The Fate Of Europe: 1944 saw the high tide of Nazi conquest ebbing as the previously besieged Russian Forces pushed outwards to recapture vital seaports in the Black Sea including Sevastopol and Odessa. In the west preparations were underway for a mass invasion through the south of France which would ultimately rid the country of German occupation and lead the Allies to the gates of Berlin. Target Suribachi: As Allied bombs tore through the heart of Tokyo the final acts of the global conflict were being played out on the small Japanese island of Iwo Jima. Strategically important due to its airfield and proximately to Japan the island became a byword for pain suffering but also for tenacity and determination as both sides fought out a gruelling and bloody battle. The Road To Mandalay: Japan's war philosophy of blood and iron saw unbridled aggression lavished on all those who stood in the way of her imperial vision. China Burma Siam and India were first in the firing line and suffered terrible losses adopting a scorched earth policy in a futile effort to halt the intruder. Overtime and with careful planning and accumulation of forces the ousted nations returned to reclaim their lands and deal a killer blow to Japan. Suicide For Glory: In 1945 the long arm of Allied sea-power reached out to throttle the final strongholds of the Japanese Army. After years of dictating events in the Pacific Ocean the mighty empire was already on her knees when Allied troops landed on the island of Okinawa. In one last desperate roll of the dice the Japanese authorities rallied the nation to give one last final effort to repulse the approaching Allies whatever the cost - the divine wind was about to blow. Design For Peace: 8.16am August 6th 1945 - the date a country died as the Japanese city of Hiroshima became the unenviable target of a new weapon - the atomic bomb. It spelt the end of the war for Japan and peace in the Pacific for the first time in 4 years. As the guns fell silent and the dust settled across Europe and the rest of the world all that was left was to count the costs of war and plan for a peaceful future.
