An oasis of chortles in the laugh desert that is Channel 4's The 11 O'Clock Show, Ali G has since progressed to both his own programme and comedy icon status. Innit, meanwhile, rounds up the finest moments from the rapper's time on 11 O'Clock with some extra footage thrown in for good measure, which show Sacha Baron Cohen's vowel-dropping, dope-smoking gangsta wannabe at home in his Berkshire "hood". However, it is the previously seen interview material that produces the best moments as Ali, resplendent in a series of eye-searing day-glo tracksuits, grills the likes of ex-film censor James Ferman ("Why did they ban Chocolate Orange?"), the late Tory educational expert Sir Rhodes Boyson ("Do you think porn stars ought to teach sex education in schools?") and a pre-Clapham Common Ron Davies ("What is so good about Wales? Because, no disrespect, but me's hears it's crap.") Exactly who is being lampooned--publicity-hungry celebs? misogynistic rappers? white middle-class wiggers?--is never entirely made clear but the results are rarely less than hilarious. Only the ever-argumentative Tony Benn succeeds in taking on his shades-sporting persecutor. Anyone yet to fall under Ali G's spell, though, is unlikely to be convinced by his opening assertion that 85% of the video's cost price will be spent on top-quality marijuana. --Clark Collis

  • Moscow On The Hudson [1984]Moscow On The Hudson | DVD | (14/06/2004) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £5.99

Robin Williams is in his fuzzy, sensitive-with-bittersweet-touches mode in Moscow on the Hudson. Playing a musician in a Russian circus who gets talked into defecting by a pal and does so in the middle of Bloomingdale's. A great concept, to be sure, but writer-director Paul Mazursky doesn't seem to know where to go from there. Williams winds up living in the same kind of poverty that he did in Russia, casting about for a way to make a living while both wallowing and drowning in the sudden tidal wave of freedom. Mazursky wants to make a point about how little we appreciate what we have, but he fails to entertain in the process--or at least to engage in a consistent way. --Marshall Fine, Amazon.com

  • Fast And Furious [Blu-ray] [2009]Fast And Furious | Blu Ray | (04/04/2011) from £5.39   |  Saving you £15.86 (384.02%)   |  RRP £19.99

Fast & Furious feels like something of a reunion for the popular franchise. After neither filled out the starring roles in the third film, Tokyo Drift, both Vin Diesel and Paul Walker returned to the franchise for this fourth, and between them managed to power it to become the most successful in the series to date. With Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster also returning, Fast & Furious goes back to the streets where the series started, as once-rivals Diesel and Walker face, for the first time, a shared enemy. This, of course, is just the necessary groundwork before all concerned can jump into a series of impressive vehicles and drive them really, really quickly. Which, of course, they do. It’s brilliantly shot, too, with razor-sharp editing, fast pacing and some outstanding camerawork that leaves you feeling at the very heart of the action. There’s not a great script underpinning it all, and a few more action sequences wouldn’t hurt, but the slower moments are ably carried by the returning cast. It’s hard to work out whether Fast & Furious needed Diesel and Walker the most, or whether the actors themselves needed the film, but marrying them all together really does pay dividends. Naturally enough, there’s scope left behind for a fifth film, which given the major success that Fast & Furious deservedly enjoyed is no threat whatsoever. It might not be anywhere near the most intelligent film you’ll see in your life, but it’s a movie that knows what it wants to do, and has a great deal of fun doing it. More, please… --Jon Foster

  • The Ultimate Predator Collection - Predator 1 and 2 [1987]The Ultimate Predator Collection - Predator 1 and 2 | DVD | (18/06/2001) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £29.99

In the original Predator, Rambo meets Alien in a terrific science fiction thriller directed by John McTiernan just a year before Die Hard made him Hollywood's most sought-after director of action-packed blockbusters. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite squad of US Army commandos to a remote region of South American jungle, where they've been assigned to search for South American officials who've been kidnapped by terrorists. Instead they find a load of skinned corpses hanging from the trees and realise that they're now facing a mysterious and much deadlier threat. As the squad is picked off one by one, Arnold finds himself pitted against a hideous alien creature that's heavily armed and wearing a spacesuit enabling the creature to render itself invisible. The title says it all in describing the relentless, escalating action that follows, maintained by McTiernan with an abundance of visual flair. The film's special effects are still impressive, and stunning locations in the Mexican jungles create a combined atmosphere of verdant beauty and imminent danger. The sequel, Predator 2, suffers from the lack of both original star Schwarzenegger and director McTiernan. Danny Glover does serviceable work as the hard-bitten city cop tracking the near-invisible Predator, who this time has chosen to do a bit of hunting on the streets of LA instead of the jungle. Look out for an Alien skull in the creature's trophy room --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com
