  The 2011/12 campaign would be one to remember for Chris Powell's new-look Charlton side, who seized the top of the third tier table in mid-September and never surrendered it. The Addicks clocked up a club record 101 points, winning 30 out of their 46 League One fixtures-with half of their victories coming on opponent's grounds. The summer of 2011 had seen the biggest turnover of players in the club's history, but victory over AFC Bournemouth at The Valley on the opening day set the tone for a truly magnificent season.Seven new signings featured against the Cherries and each would make a significant contribution as the campaign progressed. But ironically the team's leading scorer-22-goal Bradley Wright-Phillips-and the supporters player of the year Chris Solly were among the few survivors from 2010/11.   Season 2009/10 found Charlton Athletic in the third tier of English football for the first time in 28 years. And it looked as if their stay would be brief when they opened their campaign with six succesive victories a welcome reversal of fortunes after two relegations in three seasons. Manager Phil Parkinson had been unable to plan because of summer uncertainty about the clubs financial situation but he was eventually boosted by the retention of players such as Nicky Bailey Therry Racon Kelly Youga and Jose Semedo and the signing of the experienced Christian Dailly. Although they could not maintain their blistering early pace the Addicks remained in first or second place until the turn of the year. They would win exactly half of their 46 League matches and draw another 15. But the team slipped into third spot during a spell of severe weather at the start of 2010 and never regained an automatic promotion position despite briefly threatening to do so on the final day of the normal season when an unlikely combination of three different scorelines took them tantalisingly close to success. They were left to take on Swindon Town in the play-offs and went out in the heartbreaking drama of a semi-final penalty shoot-out at The Valley despite having reversed a 2-1 first-leg deficit. The club and its supporters were left crestfallen but when the dust had settled they could still look back on a memorable season including thrilling matches against Leeds United and Norwich City who claimed the automatic promotion places and Swindon who would go on to lose the play-off final at Wembley. This DVD brings together the highs and lows of the season and includes all 71 League goals plus those from the play-offs as well as brief cup action.   A genuine genre classic whose impact remains undimmed either by time, increasingly dire sequels, or Tim Burton's lacklustre 2001 "reimagining", the original Planet of the Apes richly deserves this 35th Anniversary special edition. Here you'll find a glorious anamorphic presentation of Franklin J Schaffner's painterly CinemaScope framing, accompanied by a new DTS 5.1 soundtrack that makes the movie seem even more vibrant and immediate than ever before. On disc one the film is accompanied by two audio commentaries: one from composer Jerry Goldsmith, and another with Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, Natalie Trundy and make-up artist John Chambers. These are reasonably interesting, though with a few too many gaps. Better is Eric Greene's exhaustive text commentary. Better still are the features on the second disc. Disc two contains the exhaustive two-hour Behind the Planet of the Apes documentary (also to be found in the six-disc box set) as well as a host of other behind-the-scenes nuggets for die-hard fans: dailies and outtakes, make-up tests and Roddy McDowall's home movies. There's some overlap between a 1967 NATO presentation of the movie hosted by Charlton Heston and other featurettes from 1968 and 1972. Sequel directors Don Taylor and J Lee Thompson are seen in action, and there are trailers, film reviews from 1968 and picture galleries. --Mark Walker

Some of the not-quite-as-momentous-but-no-less-amusing events covered here include Joey trying to break his personal record for stuffing Oreo cookies in his mouth, the girls spending the afternoon in wedding dresses and Ross unveiling his indescribable "sound" on the synthesiser. --Leslie Felperin
