Written and directed by Anees Bazmee, Deewangee is a psychological thriller that revolves around a brutal murder and the subsequent trial, and is unusual for an Indian film in that it attempts to explore the darker sides of the human psyche. Deewangee tells the story of Tarang Bhardwaj (Ajay Devgan), a talented musician, with an exceptional mind, who is caught red-handed at the murder of Ashwin Mehta (Vijayendra Ghatge), a famous music director. Convinced that Tarang is innocent, Sargam (Urmila Matondkar), his childhood friend and music student, approaches Raj Goyal (Akshaye Khanna), a criminal lawyer with a line of successes, to defend him in court. Drawn into the case by a strong attraction for Sargam, Raj finds himself entangled in an extremely complicated trial that puts his own life and those of his loved ones in danger. When the killer is revealed, Raj is pitted against a man so manipulative and shrewd that he begins to doubt his own thinking. Deewangee has an engaging plot: murder, mystery, courtroom drama, love and revelations that can shake the audience's own beliefs. All three of the lead actors give the performance of their careers and the makers of the film have attended to every detail in order to keep the audience riveted. On the DVD: Deewangee on disc comes with a making of feature, special song and scene selections, and a vibrant display of forthcoming attractions. --Anika Puri
