As the Cast Offs struggle to overcome the challenges presented by living on the island so we learn who they are through 'flashbacks' to the year leading up to the marooning during which time in the fictional reality presented by the series the six Cast Offs were followed by documentary crews. The stories will always be darkly comic poignant and sometimes surreal but also give us opportunity to address some of the many misconceptions about disabled people.
