| RRP Made after the zombie classic Dawn of the Dead, George A. Romero's Knightriders is both clearly the work of the same director (there are lots of familiar faces from his other films) and a marked change of tone. There's still plenty of action, but it takes the form of jousting by people wearing full medieval armor... while riding motorbikes. Ed Harris, soon to become a major star, is the leader of a troupe of travelling entertainers trying to live their lives according to the ideals of King Arthur - no easy feat in Reagan's America, where the outside world and its financial realities constantly encroach on their dreams. With a memorably eccentric cast of characters (including make-up effects genius Tom Savini in a major role, and a cameo from novelist Stephen King) and a complex, nuanced script, Knightriders is Romero's warmest and most personal film to date. Special Features: High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation Optional English SDH subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing Audio commentary with George Romero, Tom Savini, John Amplas and Christine Romero The Genesis of a Legend – Star Ed Harris remembers his first leading role A Date with Destiny – Co-star Tom Savini reflects on Knightriders Medieval Maiden – An interview with actress Patricia Tallman Theatrical Trailer TV Spots Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Nat Marsh Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by author and critic Brad Stevens, an archival interview with Romero and a new interview with composer Donald Rubinstein, illustrated with original archive stills and posters

Accidental Hero | DVD | (04/07/2005)

| Saving you £-10.20 (N/A%)
| RRP Dustin Hoffman plays a lowlife who happens upon a plane crash and rescues the passengers, but doesn't really care about the value of his deed or the attendant publicity when the media starts searching for the hero. Another fellow (Andy Garcia) steps into the gap and claims credit, and as his life changes for the better he takes on a Messianic glow. Geena Davis is the cynical television reporter who pushes the latter's fame in order to keep her story alive, and this film, directed by Stephen Frears (Prick Up Your Ears), takes a few familiar jabs at a manipulative and voyeuristic press. This is essentially an unofficial remake of Meet John Doe, though it is less dramatic and forceful in the end than Frank Capra's classic. Chevy Chase has an oddly anachronistic part as Davis' editor (maybe he thought he really was in Meet John Doe), but the film belongs to Hoffman, who makes his character a slightly cleaned-up version of the actor's own Ratso Rizzo in Midnight Cowboy. --Tom Keogh

| RRP A series of now-legendary stage comedies from the 1920s and '30s the Aldwych Farces broke theatre box-office records and made the transition to celluloid with a run of hit films – making stars of Tom Walls Ralph Lynn and Robertson Hare. Most were penned by leading comic playwright Ben Travers and peopled by a regular cast of silly-ass aristocrats battleaxe wives and put-upon husbands; nimble wordplay and finely crafted buffoonery were their hallmarks and the public loved them. Though only ten adaptations were made on film the influence of these enduringly popular films was great and can be seen in some of the key British comedies from the first half of the 20th century. This ongoing range will include not only the Aldwych Farces themselves but those films that they influenced. They are presented here as brand-new transfers from original film elements in their original aspect ratio. A CUCKOO IN THE NEST (1933) A newlywed husband is compelled through circumstances to spend the night sharing a room with an also-married lady friend. Black and White / 83 mins / 1.33:1 / Mono / English. TURKEY TIME (1933) When two gentlemen try their best to be chivalrous they find themselves caught on the sticky end of a series of unfortunate misunderstandings.
