| Blu Ray

An all-star comic cast featuring Kevin Kline, who won* an Oscar for his role, joins Monty Pythoners John Cleese and Michael Palin (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian) and sexy Jamie Lee Curtis (True Lies ) in a film so stuffed to the gills with laughs, you'll fall for it hook, line and sinker! Four conniving jewel thieves, three Yorkshire terriers, two heaving bosoms and one proper British barrister. It all adds up to a nonstop barrage of...outrageous plot twists and over-the-top performances when a girl called Wanda (Curtis) tries to cheat her Nietzche-quoting... boyfriend (Kline), an animal-loving hit man (Palin) and an embarrassment-prone counsellor (Cleese) out of a fortune in jewels in this hilariously funny farce! There’s much to love about A Fish Called Wanda a film whose laughs really haven’t been diluted over time Written by and starring John Cleese A Fish Called Wanda brought late Ealing veteran Charles Crichton out of retirement to put together an ensemble comedy based around a London diamond heist   There’s much to love here Kevin Kline’s Oscar-winning scene-stealing performance Cleese’s striptease and handy use of a goldfish and the most incompetent attempt to take out a target remain joyous highlights It’s all competently presented for the Blu-ray release too It’s hardly reference quality transfer work but it’s a decent if unspectacular upgrade   It’s the package of extra features that justify the outlay The looking back feature for instance brings the cast back together for a good retrospective on the project and they’re both good company and have interesting things to say There’s a lot of less interesting deleted material too although it’s generally the kind of stuff that you’ll only watch once But you might be more tempted to go back to the commentary track by John Cleese which is a real delight and one of the highlights of the disc   There’s a good selection of further material to work through as well The film hasn’t looked better and there’s a real sense that you’re getting a surprisingly thorough collection of bonus material --Jon Foster   Subtitles English Spanish French Dutch Portuguese German Finnish Swedish Italian Norwegian Cantonese Chinese Mandarin Chinese Danish Greek Polish Korean Thai Turkish   Dubbed Spanish French Portuguese German Italian

Classic British comedy co-written and directed by Charles Crichton. Archie Leach (John Cleese) is a repressed English barrister charged with defending gangster George (Tom Georgeson), who has just pulled off a multi-million jewel heist with the aid of the beautiful Wanda (Jamie Lee Curtis), her psychotic 'brother' Otto (Kevin Kline) and stuttering animal rights activist Ken (Michael Palin). George was captured before he could tell his cohorts where he had hidden the gems, so Wanda sets out to seduce Archie in order to discover their secret location. However, Otto's objections to her relationship with the up-tight lawyer ensure that the process is not a smooth one.
