On Erin Island, an idyllic fishing village off the coast of Ireland, charming but somewhat work-shy Ciaran O'Shea, is tasked with greeting Lisa Nolan, a straight-laced young officer who has arrived from the mainland. Not that there is much for them to do, aside from dealing with the occasional drunk, and that's usually O'Shea himself. But strange things are afoot: the crew of a fishing boat disappears, whales start appearing dead on the shore, a local lobsterman catches a strange tentacled creature in his trap. Soon it becomes clear to O'Shea and Nolan that there's something big out there, and that it's hungry. It's time to rally the villagers, arm the troops... and head to the pub. Comedy-horror in which the inhabitants of a small Irish island discover that the only way to fight back against an outbreak of deadly creatures is to get outrageously drunk. Lisa (Ruth Bradley), a young police officer, is a newcomer to Erin Island, having been posted there to cover the holiday of the island's Chief Constable. She is paired with Ciaran (Richard Coyle), who mournfully warns her that the island is extremely dull and that the only thing to do is get drunk. His attitude is shared by Paddy (Lalor Roddy), a fisherman with a drink habit, who catches a bizarre creature at sea and takes it home with him. The creature and its kin turn out to be aggressive and more than capable of killing, though, strangely, Ciaran and Paddy, both survive direct attacks. Gradually, the surviving islanders come to realise that the consumption of alcohol is the key to defeating the 'grabbers' and duly organise their biggest ever booze binge. Purely in self-defence, of course...
