Pandora couldn't resist opening the forbidden box containing all the delusions of mankind, and let's just say in Mulholland Drive David Lynch indulges a similar impulse. Employing a familiar film noir atmosphere to unravel, as he coyly puts it, "a love story in the city of dreams", Lynch establishes a foreboding but playful narrative in the film's first half before subsuming all of Los Angeles and its corrupt ambitions into his voyeuristic universe of desire. --Fionn Meade David Lynch's Lost Highway is one of the most puzzled-over movies of the 1990s. But there are no straight answers. This film is "about" a lot of things: obsession, the impossible notion of owning a partner, why tailgating is wrong. Beyond that, it's about nothing more than enjoying just how sensually delicious everything looks and sounds on Lynch's Highway. --Paul Tonks Eraserhead is a horror movie unlike any other. A fuzzy-haired young man, trapped in his apartment, has a series of nightmarish experiences, among which is a scene in which his head is used to make the rubbers that fit on the ends of pencils. --Nikki Disney

Easy Rider: Originally released in 1969 Easy Rider is widely regarded as the original ""road movie"" and based on the cult following it developed it was soon copied by other Hollywood studios. Written by Dennis Hopper Peter Fonda and Terry Southern (Dr Strangelove) Fonda produced the low-budget production whilst Hopper took on directing duties receiving an award at Cannes for his first work. Since its release Easy Rider has been regarded as a symbol of free-spirited reaction against society and even for those too young to remember its original release it maintains its status as a classic film which characterises the attitude of a decade. Now after 30 years Easy Rider has been remastered and is presented here in High Definition with both clearer picture and sound quality. (Dir. Dennis Hopper 1969) Wild At Heart: ""This whole world's wild at heart and weird on top."" Barry Gifford's cult novel gets the David Lynch treatment eliciting outstanding performances from an incredible cast of character-actors. An erotic violent disturbing blackly-humorous road movie that confirmed David Lynch as one of the most startling and original film-maker of his generation. This twisted homage to The Wizard Of Oz takes Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern on one of the most bizarre journeys of all time as they escape from the clutches of her evil mother and a bunch of hired assassins... However Lynch did pick up the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival for his efforts. (Dir. David Lynch 1990) Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas: ""We were somewhere around Barstow when the drugs began to take hold."" It is 1971: journalist Raoul Duke barrels towards Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race accompanied by a trunkful of contraband and his slightly unhinged Samoan attorney Dr. Gonzo. But what is ostensibly a cut-and-dry journalistic endeavor quickly descends into a feverish psychedelic odyssey and an excoriating dissection of the American way of life. Director Terry Gilliam and an all star cast (headed by Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Torro) show no mercy bringing Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's legendary Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to the screen creating a film both hilarious and savage. Gilliam took over the reigns as director after Alex Cox (Repo Man) left the production due to creative differences. Gilliam quickly re-wrote the screenplay in its entirety to fit his unique creative vision and style while staying true to Thompson's writings. (Dir. Terry Gilliam 1998)

Lost Highway has been described by its director as a 21st century film noir a graphic investigation into parallel identity crises a world where time is dangerously out of control and finally a terrifying ride down the lost highway. With typically Lynchian dreamlike quality Lost Highway expands the horizons of the medium taking its audience on a journey through the unknown and the unknowable. It is not only about the human psyche it seems to take place inside it. Set in a city of Lynch's imagination Lost Highway focuses on two separate but intersecting stories. One about musician Fred Madison (Bill Pullman) tortured by the notion that his wife Renee (Patricia Arquette) is having an affair who suddenly finds himself accused of her murder. The other concerns a young mechanic (Balthazar Getty) drawn into a web of deceit by a temptress who is cheating on her gangster boyfriend (Robert Loggia). The tales are connected by a mind-blowing turn of events that calls into question the protagonists' very identities. It all makes for a classic Lynchian nightmare.

David Lynch strikes again with this literal nightmare of a motion picture - a brilliant scathing hysterical and haunting ode to Hollywood. A mysterious dark-haired woman (Laura Elena Harring) emerges from an accident with a purse full of cash and a head full of amnesia. Meanwhile Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) a wide-eyed gal from Deep River Ontario has just landed in Los Angeles with dreams of movie super stardom. When Betty finds the nameless beauty in her aunt's apartment she is deeply intrigued by the situation and offers to help her. This sends the two women on a bizarre search for the truth through the macabre sun-soaked streets of the City of Angels where the mob a young film director (Justin Theroux) a studio executive with a tiny head and an enigmatic figure named the Cowboy all float into the picture then out again until there is no longer any distinction between what is dream and what is reality. Originally filmed as a pilot for the American Channel ABC Lynch's daring open-ended vision was coldly rejected by the network. As he was about to abandon the project French producer Pierre Edelman convinced Lynch to rethink it as a feature. The result is this stunning expression of the subconscious a testament to the power of personal artistic vision.
