The Riddle Of Rudolph Hess: On the 10th of May 1941 Rudolph Hess former deputy of the Third Reich made an extraordinary solo flight to Britain. Was Hess attempting to make peace with the British prior to the German invasion of the Soviet Union? The site had been chosen by Himmler's personal clairvoyant and was intended to become the Vatican City of the 1000 year Reich. What were the mysteries performed in the castle crypt? Journey aboard the HMS Ark Royal as she takes to the high seas for her final voyage. There has been an Ark Royal in the British fleet since 1587. But now its final incarnation has been decommissioned there will no longer be any ship bearing this illustrious name. In this programme Discovery Channel joins the crew of the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal on her final poignant voyage. With exclusive access to all areas of the ship we follow her as the flagship of a multinational task force as it heads across the Atlantic. For many of the crew it will be their first and perhaps last experience of life at sea testing their ability to live and work in cramped pressurised conditions. The fleet first heads to Halifax to celebrate the Canadian Navy centenary - including a confidential Royal visit – before continuing down the Eastern Seaboard to Mayport timed to coincide with Fleet Week - the American celebration of the US Navy. Then they continue their voyage to drop-off the Marines of 42 Commando in North Carolina for training with the US Marine Corp in advance of deployment to Afghanistan. Finally the Ark Royal will head back to the UK as she prepares to go out of service.
The hook of The Simple Life is irresistible: two wealthy, pampered young women go from upper-crust Los Angeles to an Arkansas farm to prove that they can survive without their mobile phones and credit cards. As hotel heiress Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie (daughter of pop star Lionel) blithely move in with a farm family, the Ledings, the culture clash immediately becomes a train wreck; when asked to pluck chickens, Richie declares, "I'm not plucking anything but my eyebrows." They try to work a series of jobs (at a dairy farm, a fast-food joint and a livestock auction), but they possess not a jot of work ethic, nor any sense of the consequences of failure. Like the girls themselves, this 2003 reality show becomes fascinating and repellent, comic and horrifying. It's like watching alien beings trying to masquerade as people. --Bret Fetzer

A feature-length documentary about Roger Corman's life, career and remarkable influence on modern moviemaking.Blue jeans, sock-hops and drive-in movies: the Fifties were America's age of innocence. But stalking the depths of its post-nuclear bliss, mass paranoia became fuel for Joseph McCarthy's brand of Red Scare terror propaganda. Bomb shelters were a deluxe feature in every American home, government-sponsored educational reels promised an imminent nuclear threat from across the Atlantic, and Hollywood, Babylon of the western world, hung on the brink of collapse. It was here, in the last-ditch machinations of a dying juggernaut, that a mild-mannered, civil engineer's son would become the most influential force in modern moviemaking. Corman's World tracks the triumphant rise of Hollywood's most prolific writer-director-producer, the true godfather of independent filmmaking.
