In 1960s America there was a revolution in the waging of war. Control of conflicts moved from the generals to the politicians. Vietnam was the bloody testing ground of this new theory. The Air Force found itself ill-equipped for such a war. It learned it the hard way. Ill-defined war goals and micro-management from Washington brought the Air Force into Vietnam with little hope of success. Despite this, the men and aircraft involved provided a constant air threat and came home with a new vision for the future.
