FLYING SCOTSMAN DVD: Flying Scotsman is known as the most famous steam locomotive in the world. There are few people have not heard of this magnificent machine, but far fewer know the complicated story of how Flying Scotsman became a National Treasure. Illustrated by evocative footage of the engine working on the British railway network in various guises, this programme traces the story from the time when the locomotive returned from Australia after achieving its most recent record - the world s longest non-stop run behind steam - up to its acquisition by the nation and the National Railway Museum at York. In this programme we see Flying Scotsman with single and double-chimney fittings, German smoke deflectors and LNER Apple Greene and British Railways Brunswick Green liveries, working from Carnforth in the North to Salisbury in the South, as well as on the Ride the Legend excursions to Scarborough. LITTLE BOOK OF the FLYING SCOTSMAN: The LNER Class A3 Pacific steam locomotive No. 4472 Flying Scotsman (originally No. 1472) was built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) at Doncaster Works to a design of H.N. Gresley. It was employed on long-distance express trains notably on the 10am London to Edinburgh Flying Scotsman train service after which it was named. Flying Scotsman certainly had claims to fame from the early years of its main line career, but it was 1963 when it really started to hit the headlines after it had retired. This might not have happened had the engine not had such a memorable name. Now, of course, its ongoing 40 years of fame (if not fortune) has earned it a place in the National Railway Museum collection and the title of the world s most famous steam train.

STORY OF TANKS DVD: The changing face of tank warefare over the past 100 years. The first tanks were produced from late 1914 by Great Britain and France to break the deadlock of trench warfare on the Western Front. Their first use was during the Battle of the Somme in 1915. Britain and France built thousands of tanks, while Germany only developed and bought into service 20 vehicles of a single design. In this DVD, we look at the development of tanks throughout history including the German tank divison, Russian tanks & U.S. tank development. We also look at tanks in the Cold War. While they would not only continue to be produced in huge numbers the technology advanced dramatically making them larger with thicker armour and generally much more effective. This is a fascinating DVD not to be missed by those with an interest in military history and weapon development. LITTLE BOOK OF TANKS: The tank was born to break the deadlock of World War I s Western Front, where trench-based defence in depth barbed wire, machine guns and artillery had led to immense loss of life. Dogged by mechanical unreliability and early misuse, postwar development of technology and tactics saw the Germans open World War II with the devastating Blitzkrieg lightning war in which armoured divisions led the way. Tanks dominated the battlefields of World War II and have continued to develop, reaching their apogee in the MBTs of the biggest military-industrial complexes the US Abrams, German Leopard, British Challenger, Israeli Merkava and Russian T90. Today, in a world of asymmetric warfare, tanks may dominate the battlefield, but infantry rocket weapons and anti-tank helicopters have evened things up and ensure that tanks must develop further to meet changing threats.
