One of the unexpected trends in the yoga mania that is sweeping the country is the demand--and popularity--of yoga for kids. Established expert and popular yoga instructor Barbara Currie's Fun Yoga for Kids isn't just capitalising on the interest, but instead offers a genuine, sound introduction aimed at children--and that includes the kid in everyone. While the set, graphics, animation and format are all kid-friendly, the key to this programme's success is that Currie resists turning it into a pantomime. With precise and concise instructions she takes the kids straight... into saluting Sammy the Sun, a core yoga sequence. The difference between this and adult yoga is that the holds in positions are not as long. With Colin the Cobra's Forest of Secrets as the setting, the 50-minute session flies through about a posture every two minutes. The postures are renamed after animals such as Willy the Warrior Warthog (warrior position), Tallulah the Toucan (triangle position), Billy the Bear and Freddie the Flamingo (balancing positions), Geri the Giraffe (twist). By featuring real kids rather than perfect models or trained actors, the responses are endearingly imperfect, spontaneous, and genuine. All in all it's a fantastic introduction for parents and kids, with no chance of anyone getting bored. On the DVD: Fun Yoga for Kids on disc offers each posture itemised scene by scene making it simple to choose favourites, repeat, or adapt for shorter sessions. --Lorna V [show more]
