Kai Wessel directs this German historical drama adapted from the novel by Robert Domes. The film follows 13-year-old Yenish boy Ernst Lossa (Ivo Pietzcker) who is sent to a Sargau mental institution in 1942. Ernst is put under the care of chief physician and staunch Nazi Dr Werner Veithausen (Sebastian Koch) and it's not long before he realises that a number of the patients are to be killed as part of the Nazi's enforced euthanasia programme. Desperate to escape the facility along with friend and fellow patient Nandl (Jule Hermann), Ernst decides to stage a daring escape attempt.
