Julien Berner (Thierry Lhermitte), a successful debt collector, takes the mysterious Angela (Nadia Fares) back to his flat while his wife Anne and their six-year-old son are away. Angela suffers from violent mood changes, however, and walks out on him, only to return to pester him at work and eventually obtain a job as his au pair. When Angela moves in with them, Julien confesses all to Anne. They row, and Julien flees with Angela to his new penthouse, only to have a violent quarrel and strike her. Believing Angela dead, Julien drops her body into a shaft. When he returns to the house, the body has disappeared.
