An examination of the life and career of poet, painter, activist and influential singer-songwriter Patti Smith. Shot largely in black and white, the film is the product of a 12-year collaboration with director Steven Sebring and paints an abstract yet intimate portrait of Smith's life accompanied by readings and excerpts from her poetry and music.
