    Briony McCowie 04 Aug 2008

Chad michael Murray and the other characters from tree hill give an amazing performance on this teen show. At first tension is high between the two Scott brothers and these emotions are portrayed excellently by both Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty. These DVDs are a must see as they show the ups and downs of the teen's lives in tree hill. You will nnot be disappointed with any of the performances or story lines, and with these DVDs, you can watch them over and over.

  • Spider Forest [2004]
    Chris 03 Aug 2008

I thought this film was excellent, Not your stereotypical horror that have come out of late, the film was a breath of fresh air.

I was sitting there half expecting a ring/grudge esque style character to pop out of the wilderness with a banshee like wail....which surprisingly didn't happily, didn't happen!

They have taken this film back to the old school style of low budget scares, not that you notice this, with a budget of 1.3 million dollars (much less than the standard budget for Korean horros) i sometimes prefer this as they then have to use atmospheric suspense to get the hairs standing on end, which equates to deep seated fear, the best kind!

There are plenty of twists and turns in the film, when you finally think you have an inclin of whats about to happen, it takes a U-turn and you end up in a completely different place.

The scariest element in the film is the fact that its based a lot in my opinion around the main characters self distrust, with failing memory due to an "accident".

I've tried not to give too much away as the story really is worth experiencing for yourself.

To end, id definitely recommend this film, lights off and plenty of snacks at hand.....Enjoy :)

A recently widowed TV producer is drawn to an isolated cabin in a mysterious woods, this is where the fun begins...

  • Hannibal [2001]
    Dominic Allan 03 Aug 2008

By the end of the movie I didn't like this movie at all. It re-enacts what the first film had (silence of the lambs) as it is psychologically disturbing by making the normal become very scary. You know Hannibal is a deranged killer but the characters in the movie hunt him and you forget he is the villain as he becomes a victim in your mind. Starling plays a detestable FBI agent leaving no engaging hero you can connect with. In the end Hannibal after we accept him as good, does a u-turn and becomes more horrific than ever, reminding us of his character traits.
If you are scared of random strangers before you will be more after this film.

    Disturbing

Dance has passion, dance is fun and dancers have a partner. I want to learn to dance like this. The moves are excellent the acting is good if you don't have a good feeling by the end you haven"t been watching the film. I truly got involved with this film. Two cultures clash to find opposites attract and the couple overcome emotional setbacks to be together. Enjoyable teen fun

I want to learn to dance.

  • Step Up 2 The Streets [2008]
    Dominic Allan 03 Aug 2008

The storyline is predictable the actors are adquate but very attractive but we all watch these films for one reason the dance moves and they are excellent. This film makes you want to dance or at least to join a class. Just as good as the first with a slight rebal side but you would never ask too much from a teen happy movie.
Go out and buy it if you like to dance.

There are few dance films out and about but this warrents more of them

  • Supervolcano
    Dominic Allan 03 Aug 2008

This docu-drama portrays itself as a drama based on facts around the realistic potential volcanic eruption of Yellowstone Park. Not to be taken word for word but to be acknowledged as possibly happening in our time. This disaster movie has all the characters from heroes to villains but all acceptable character as being real people in event like this. The mixture of storyline, facts, real footage, scenarios and human psychology make this film gripping visually and emotionally on a worldwide scale. It is not often I cheer for the Americans to prevail but this film gets you involved.

    The BBC at its best.

  • Harold And Kumar Get The Munchies [2004]
    Dominic Allan 03 Aug 2008

Both Harold (John) and Kumar (Kal) have acting ability as proven as supporting actors in other movies. This movie as main characters doesn't do them justice. The idea of the movie has mild potential for comedy but neither of the character throughout the movie even seems to have ever been stoned to any effect, which is to main aspect of the film. It is like watching a sketch show each scene and set is one minute long with one joke in each, which is usually highly predictable. I didn't expect sophisticated humour but at most time this movie failed to even make me smile.
John and Kal can both do better. A rental when there is nothing else is in the video shop not a buyer.

  • Grudge 2 [2006]
    Dominic Allan 03 Aug 2008

This is a sequel I was very happy to watch. Not many sequels manage to improve on the first film but this one does. This movie continues where the grudge left off with a pacier start that initiates three story lines, which are slightly confusing to start off with as they are not all on the same time line. They come together very well for dramatic screen play with good visual effect. The story line is not too different from the first movie and lapses at the end due to a failure to give a happy resolution but does have a acceptable twisted conclusion.

A sequel to be proud of

  • Donnie Brasco [1997]
    james fowler 02 Aug 2008

The more i watch this the better it gets.Pacino was born to play this role.Depp is very good but is over shadowed by real heavyweight acting from other members of the cast.More classic lines than the godfather"your diamond is a beautiful thing....but its not my thing".As much action and suspense as the best, but without glamourising these murderers. You feel genuine sorrow for the wasted life of this ageing mobster. If youve missed this(as many have),and you like the godfather or casino,£3 is bargain and this does have multiple watchability."hes a friend of ours"

tragic story of a life wasted as a gangster(pacino),and the ultimate betrayal by his best friend(depp)packaged in a gritty, realistic gangster flick.

  • Classic Albums - John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
    david campbell 02 Aug 2008

This is a landmark in music. For the first time an artist puts his unhappy childhood and frustrations about his parents and society in general when growing up into song.John was never afraid to wear his heart on his sleave. The brutal honesty in each of these songs is as important as any album released before or since,by any artist. It just shows John as an ordinary guy who has the same problems as all of us.It is much copied now,but never matched.A MUST BUY.

  • Power Rangers Dino Thunder (Complete Series)
    Aaron Boffin 02 Aug 2008

I felt this series of the Power Rangers was really good as it re-introduced Tommy as one of the main characters, now grown up and working as a science professor he unites a small team of teenagers (much like Zordon in the first series) to become Power Rangers and fight against the forces of darkness. The same principals are in this series as all the rest you have the team of teenagers (Power Rangers) a leader Tommy, Megazords and a nemeses Mesogog.

  • Supernatural Complete Season 1 Box Set
    Alan 01 Aug 2008

Supernatural season 1 is a very good introduction into the world of Sam and Dean and what they do for a living. Supernatural has all the things that make a good TV series it has te perfect storylines for every one of the episodes, a very good cast of characters with some very good guest stars and it also has some really good music. This show is scary but it can be funny at t same time and even has some family drama between te two brothers, their fatherand the reason that they started ther quest to kill te Yellow-Eyed-Demon. The crew has done a really good job with Supernatural including the special effects and the fact that the show is set in a different place every week. Some of the Suprnatural episodes are based on Urban Legends and Folklore including the Legend of Boody Mary, Pagan Gods, Ghosts, Wendigos, Demons, vampires and many more. Supernatural is a show that has sophistication and is up there with the X-Files in terms of the spookyness of the show. If you are looking for something new to watch Supernatural should be that show because it is something that has never been done before.

  • Steamboy [2004]
    Jordan 01 Aug 2008

Unless you"re a big fan of Japanese Anime this film will most probably leave you feeling rather disappointed. The premise behind the film is rather intriguing, a young orphan/inventor gets taken into the big city because of his inventions and action and adventure supposedly ensue. But it"s this area, the action/adventure aspect, that lets this film down. The majority of the film is filled with slight espionage as the protagonist sneaks around a lavish backdrop looking for clues behind but ultimately, the film wasn"t intriguing or entertaining enough for it to retain my interest. The best scenes take place in the last 15 minutes of the film and for a Sci-fi-action-Anime; I was expecting a whole lot more.

Supernatural is a very well written show which combines good storys and a variety of Urban Legends and Folklore but it also has a good ammount of humour. Supernatural has a very good cast, a very good composition of music and very good special effects. Overall this is a brilliant show and one of the best on TV.

  • And When Did You Last See Your Father? [2007]
    Kevin Stanley 31 Jul 2008

Blake Morrison"s semi-autobiographical And When Did You Last See Your Father? (first published as a book in 1993) is an extraordinary portrait of family life set against the backdrop of an honest and heartfelt account of his father"s life, experiences of terminal illness and eventual death. It became a best-seller and then a film.

It"s an unflinching exploration of a father and son relationship that intersperses funny, embarrassing and tender moments from Blake"s childhood, with compassionate and heartrending scenes from the present, in which his somewhat-estranged father is dying.

Directed by Anand Tucker (Shopgirl), from a screenplay by David Nicholls (Starter for Ten) it stars the often-underrated, but hugely talented Colin Firth (Bridget Jones) as Blake, the always delightful Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge) as his father and Juliet Stevenson (Truly Madly Deeply), one of the most respected actresses of her generation, as his careworn mother.

The material is directed in a sensitive and poetic manner, with a genuine dedication to authenticity and a level of attention to detail that"s obvious throughout. The manner in which it"s presented on screen by the actors, via Nicholl"s screenplay, captures the raw honesty that Morrison had not been afraid to express in his memoirs. Blake"s recollections of his father"s self-rightousness, pomposity, egotism and even flirtatious nature are all painted in full colour, as are Blake"s own contrasting, introverted, personality traits. But both are complex characters with virtues and flaws and much of the story centers around whether Blake, throughout his childhood and adulthood, can see past his father"s flaws, the constant putdowns that his father hurls at him and his own deeply conflicted feelings towards his father, to see the real man that his father was, caring, loving, charming and devoted to his children.

Firth"s performance is truly compelling and it"s clear that he"s captured the spirit of Morrison and the love, and hatred, that he had for his father - believing him at times to be invincible and infallible but at others to be mean-spirited and sanctimonious. Broadbent matches him every step of the way untroubled by the changes in character required from overbearing and duplicitous father to weakened and frail older man about to meet with death.

And When Did You Last See Your Father? has a potentially universal resonance with audiences because to some extent we have all been in Blake"s or his father"s shoes at some point in our lives. It"s delightfully honest in it"s material and depiction and will leave most audiences in deep thought and most probably tears as the powerful conclusion hits home.

  • Death At A Funeral [2007]
    Dominic Allan 31 Jul 2008

A good british black comedy. This is a movie I am glad to say the Americans wouldn't find funny. Sharpe, well writen and performed brilliantly.
This is a combination of british culture wrapped in satire at an unfortunately event, that gives this movie unique features that makes it a very good watch for teems and adult.
I bought it and have no regrets

  • The Village [2004]
    Barnaby Walter 30 Jul 2008

The Village is a masterpiece. This is not a statement usually used by critics when referring to M. Night Shyamalan's seventh screenplay effort, but I firmly believe this is true. I can see how The Village could have viewers divided in opinion, one side shrieking "Excellent, beautiful, just watch it and see!" the other yelling "Pretentious, boring, not scary!".
Let's start with the "not scary" issue. This film will not have you gnawing away at your fingers with fear, nor will it easily win over its desired "let's get freaked out" audience. The eerily beautiful photography (courtesy of Brit Oscar nominee Roger Deakins) and equally commendable music score gets this fact across in the first quarter of an hour, though does hint at darker things to come. The story concerns a group of people living the best life independent that the 18th Century has to offer, with one nagging issue always at the back of their minds: the creatures in the woods. These woods surround the village, acting as a starting point for all stories that indulge in the strange, disturbing or mysterious. Tales of creatures that lurk in between the creaking trees keep the residence from straying from their community's boundaries, preventing people from going to any nearby towns. Cut off from the economy and the rest of the world, they live off the land and exercise their daily lives without money or fixed laws. The elders of the community have the final say on matters of deliberation, and so is the case when blind daughter of elder Edward Walker (William Hurt) asks to travel through woods to the towns to get urgently needed medical supplies. To say more than this would risk an indiscretion to those who have not already been subjected to the mind-spraining wonderful twist at the end.
Although Disney preferred to bill Shyamalan's name on the promotional posters rather than those of the impressive cast, a mention has to go to the touching, very human performances from William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver and Oscar-worthy Bryce Dallas Howard (thanks to her, blindness is truly the scariest thing in the film). More through facial expression than dialogue, they make the pieces of Shyamlan's "Little Red Riding Hood"-meets- "The Others" jigsaw puzzle fit perfectly.
The unfortunate decision to try to appeal to true hard-horror lovers was, in my view, the cause of the film's less than warm reception. By expecting a nerve drilling, rather than an intelligent exercise in audience manipulation and storytelling beauty, a viewer will feel short-changed. If this has happened to you, I would urge you to we-watch The Village and try to not to think of it as a film to be terrified by, but let yourself be wondrously transfixed by the sepia-like vision that Shyamalan serves up. If you have yet to watch the film, take note of the BBFC"s 12 certificate and take it for what it is. If you do this, hopefully you won't eject the DVD wishing you'd seen an 18 instead. Go where the film wants to take you: a trip into the pre-"Happening"* world of a gifted writer. (*Reference to "The Happening, the most recent work of Shyamalan to date).
