Wonderful.. compulsive viewing. Each story is in two parts and i'm so glad that i bought it on DVD as i would have been on the edge of my seat from one week until the next watching it on TV. If you believe in the supernatural then this is for you and no further comments are needed as it is a very tense and well put together drama. If you don't believe in the supernatural then this is still a must, great story lines, fantastic acting and just the slight chance that you might think.. hmmm.. what if?
Okay, so Hex as a TV series may not be the highest of ratings winners but after the demise of Buffy and Angel, something needed to fill the genre void, especially with Charmed heading on a downward spiral when it comes to story and things of that nature.
The turn for Hex though takes a serious step back when it comes to the story of Cassie and Azazeal, we see the character of cassie take a back seat in favour of 'Thelma' her ghostly friend and the introduction of a new character throws the cat among the pigeons so to speak...
Season 2 focus' on deception, sin and seduction as our heroine and new aggrovator play a dangerous dance while another fella who loves our heroine does everything in his power to keep his lady out of harms reach.
Be prepared for something different when you put in the first disc, be prepared for a bit more blood then the first series as season 2 takes on a homage to horror in a few splatteriffic sequences :)
Enjoy... I did, if you've not seen it, it's well worth picking up both seasons as armageddon is upon us children and the time to act is now!!!
To stave off the boredom of widow-dom Laura Henderson purchases a theatre and stages musicals featuring naked performers. Not the done thing in the 30s and 40s which is when the film is set. We get to witness ye olde London - accurately reconstructed in my layman"s eye. Dench"s delivery has a comic and sympathetic touch which makes the over privileged character of Laura, hopelessly blinkered by her class, more amiable. She gels well with her co-star - spokesman of the Cockney accent Bob Hoskins who actually manages to speak realistically in another accent.
Gay performer on the posh side Will Young plays a... gay performer on the posh side so it"s fairly difficult to judge his debut into acting.
Due to it being intrinsic to the film the nudity doesn"t make voyeuristic impact.
Lottery - take note this is type of British film you should be funding.
If you like stupid-funny this is fantastic and also includes two of the hottest actors around! thumbs up!
Great combo of movie and documentary, gripping story...
Miller's Crossing, the third and finest film from the esteemed Coen Brothers, is one of the finest American films ever made. The picture finds the duo at their most imaginative, yet, strangely, also their most restrained. The Coens' have always been bravura stylists, but their imagination is manifested in a more somber and moody fashion this time around--which makes the abrupt stylistic flourishes in a couple of key moments all the more overwhelming.
The plot is far too labryinthine to do justice in the alotted space, but it centers around a tortured soul whose torn between his love for a woman and his loyalty to his friend. Gabriel Byrne gives easily his greatest performance as Tom Reagan, the wiseass right-hand-man to Alber Finney's cartoonish crime boss. Reagan is the Coens' answer to Humphrey Bogart, but they manage to infuse the character with more remorse, self-loathing, and utter loneliness than any Bogart character that comes to mind. They take the typical Bogartian archetype and stretch the key dynamics of the character one step farther.
The film manages to squeeze 20 years worth of Hollywood history, from the Gangster films of the 30's to the Noirs of the 40's, into it's 105 minutes, but one never forgets that we're in the hands of an individual and unique vision. There are certain moments where a scene is punctuated by some sort of ambient breath, like someone lightly blowing over the top of a beer bottle, that suggests the authors of the picture omnipresent during their masterpiece. Miller's Crossing sways violently from comedy to drama, satire to homage, thriller to romance, while maintaining a steady tone throughout. The Coens' manage to allow all of their thematic motifs, dramatic goings-on, and heart-thumping style to coalesce into a singlular voice that demands to be heard.
Napoleon Dynamite is a high school Nerd who lives with his Gran and his equally Nerdy older brother Kip. When Napoleon's Gran is injured in an extreme sports accident, his slimey door to door salesman Uncle Rico comes to look after him and his brother.
Napoleon has no luck with the girls, but his only friend Pedro decides to run for class President and they both become interested in a local plain Jane who helps them with their campaign.
This is one of the funniest films I've seen for a long time. It doesn't mock Napoleon and his friends for being square, it shows that there's a personality behind every Geek.
This dvd is the best documentary I've ever seen, and most likely the best documentary that is ever going to be made!!
I say this because it shows the girl's personalities very well as they tour all over America, with their very unique and sexy burlesque show.
These girls are extremely hot, yet they are not the "typical" burleque show girls, they don't have fake tans, bleached blonde hair and are not full of silicone!!
At last there is a movement of powerful, strong, unique and sexy women that have a place where they can be themselves and feel like they are no longer outcasts, this place is suicidegirls.com
This dvd has many clips from the show, all of which are entertaining and very sexy.
Extras are outtakes from Missy Suicide and an awesome rock music video in which the girls feature.
This is a must for any fans of burleque shows.
Just goes to show that beauty is not just silicone!!
100% recommended!!
Enjoy.
:)
It must be a good sign if you can't think of another actor who could play the part that well... I know it's become a cliche to win an Oscar for portraying some kind of disability but Al Pacino gives a towering performance as the blind ex-soldier. His daughter (who he lives with) arranges for a college student to "baby-sit" him for Thanksgiving weekend but Pacino has his own plans, which include a trip to New York! The title of the film becomes apparent when, sitting in a restaurant, he impresses a young lady by telling her the type of shampoo she uses! The film does not end where you think it would; instead there is a surprising and forceful moment, which I won't reveal in case you haven't seen it - which you most definitely should. A most worthy Oscar win!
Following on from Series one the Storylines and Scriptwriting just gets better and better, Shameless is a Masterpiece well worth a purchase and will provide many hours of Entertainment and fun and Best of all they all know how to throw a party!
caroline in the city was one of those 90s US sitcoms which languished behind the likes of Frasier and Friends. these sitcoms lasted longer in comparison to caroline in the city, this of which even though had its share of criticism, it garnered a massive fanbase across the globe that includes myself. i've seen the third season on the paramount comedy channel, and for me personally this is my favourite series for two reasons: 1)the caroline/richard/julia romance triangle and 2) the resolution of the last episode of this season where caroline and richard finally embrace by snogging each other!
unlike the first two seasons, i would say that this one has a lot more emotional content, particularly as there are numerous scenes involving caroline and richard confronting one another about each other's feelings. during this season, caroline displays instances of jealousy, as she tries to balance her worklife, whilst attempting to get over her feelings for richard, though as this series evolves, she for one cannot.richard begins married life as a husband to his so-called sweetheart, the darstardly Julia- a woman of whom i and every other CITC fans dislike greatly. the performances from the stars are impressive as ever, but for me its lea thompson as caroline duffy and malcolm gets as richard karinsky that keep me glued to this show. the tension between the two is more intense than ever before throughout the series and the humour is as ever sharp, witty, clever and off-the-cuff. overall though, caroline in the city is a funny, interesting sitcom, which despite its limitations, offered a different dimension to the traditional sitcom formula.
I could remember seeing a trailer for this film last year at the cinema, it seemed intriguing, apart from the fact that there was clearly no wolf that would be terrorising people, something which I thought may have been amusing, I thought the film looked rather good. I was however skeptical. The last "horror" film I saw a trailer for at the cinema was "The Village" and I thought that looked good, what a mistake I made there. I wasn"t about to make the same one though so I put the film out of my mind and thought of it as a "I"ll rent it when I am in the mood for it" film.
After seeing a few adverts for it in various magazines I was slightly concerned by the huge emphasis that it was "based on true events" I thought perhaps this may have been a publicity stunt to create hype, especially considering the timing of the films release and the Australian Falconio trial. Saying this though the more I read about Wolf Creek the more and more I wanted to watch it, I was put off buying the film due to previous mistakes with the genre so I headed down to my local Blockbuster and rented the film knowing that with my girlfriend away for the weekend I had the perfect opportunity to watch a "scary" film.
I had high hopes for this film, it seemed fresh, the reviews of it were impressive and it was acclaimed to be a scary film. Hmmm.
I"m not sure that scary is a word which I would use to describe Wolf Creek. Don"t misunderstand me though I found the film to be enjoyable, it kept my interest throughout and I felt that it had all the crucial elements of a good horror film. However, it to me was not scary. It was the type of film that I could have watched with my girlfriend (if I had lied about the genre and story in advance as she hates scary things). Yes there would have been moments where she would have had to of looked away, for instance the dead people tortured on the walls, the slicing off of the fingers and the "head on a stick" part but aside from that I don"t think she would have been too traumatised.
I really feel as though I am not doing the film any justice though, the director, Greg McLean has done a fantastic job with the filming; it looks great, there are some awesome landscape shots and you do genuinely feel the suspense building throughout the whole film. The casting is also spot on, the film gives you just enough back story of the three backpackers to gain an insight into their personalities and create likeable characters for you to get to know in the build up of the film. The star of the show though is actor John Jarratt whose eccentric redneck killer shows us that not all bad guys have to be bad throughout. In fact I would say that that is one of the best parts of this film, you are led in to like the redneck, see him as a friendly face and doubt his ability to kill whilst at the same time you are also getting ready for him to turn on the tourists and show his true colours.
This film has been likened to Blair Witch and to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, similarities which in my eyes are not compliments. It has the staying power and depth which Texas Chainsaw lacks while Blair Witch can only dream of the casting and filming that this film has to offer.
I would say ignore the likenesses, ignore the hype and watch it for what it is; an enjoyable horror road movie that deserves every bit of credit that it gets.
I'm not a huge martial arts fan, but I am a fan of how mesmerizing Bruce Lee is in action.
The rest of the film is a write-off - hokey acting (not least by Lee), huge anti-Japanese sentiments going on, and quality bad dubbing should make this all seem a bit poor.
However, when there is some fighting (and quite a bit of it there is), I defy you to take your eyes from the screen as Lee utters his famous primal scream and lets rip as only he can!!
He really is a blur at times (literally in places), and it's only his gurning between fighting that let's him down.
If you don't mind a few racial stereotypes and people saying stuff when their mouth aint moving (even though it's subtitled anyway!), then this is definitely worth a punt.
In this season we learn the that Prue died after shax attacked although it is explained poorly as we are not actually showed what happened, but the Charmed ones still have their destiny to fulfil when they find out that they have another sister.
Rose McGowen is the new charmed one, Paige, I feel this was one of her weaker seasons on the show but by the end of it you can tell she is really setteling in to the role.
A good season for the show overall but not the best.
for those of you that dont know about lost it is basically about a group of people who were involved in a plane crash leaving them deserted over a mysterious island. many wierd things happen and it soon becomes clear the island is not normal!I started watching Lost on channel 4 when it started thinking it was nothing more than your typical american show which i wouild get very bored of very quickly. however i soon got very hooked on it. lost is a fantastic series in which you never know what is going to happen and you cant wait to watch the next episode. the way it is filmed, the acting and the stories are fantastic. it ends with a huge cliffhanger and i cant wait till season 2 comes out!
Packed with special features, series 7 includes cameo roles from a host of well known Hollywood stars Kirk Douglas, Mickey Rooney and Donald Sutherland and the Mackas! Brilliant !
Lost is the long awaited, gripping thriller that is guarented to keep you hooked from start to finish. It follows the story of 48 survivours stranded on an island from a plane crash that was meant to go from Sydney to LA. However, whilst in the air, the plane went 1000 miles off course. Each episode follows the story of one of the survivors left stranded and shows their life befor the crash. This is the story of how all the survivors work together as a team and the issues that they encounter. How can they get off the island, and try to contact anyone to get rescued. WHAT will happen? You'll have to watch the rest to find out.
The sickest most hilarious cartoon to be realesed from the BBC ever. With delightfull people such as Ivan Dobsky (the meat safe murderer only he didn't do it he only said he did it so they'd take his willy out of the blender) and the strained marrage of the man who never returns for tea on time and his bizzar late night antics. Your mother wouldn't like this.
good good good. all 13 epidodes together with special features. not like the volumes 1-4. the box set even has doctor who confidential. WOW!!!!!!!!!
Yes Minister is British satirical comedy at its best. The script is consistently sharp, witty and beautifully written. Despite being politically based, the periodical ambiguity makes the situations as hilarious and relevant now as they were in the 1980s - the only difference is that ministers tend to be chauffered around in more modern cars than those featured! Yes Minister stands up well in a modern context and remains as funny as ever. A terrific combination is struck upon between a subtle intellectual humour which underlies the whole series, alongside cringe-worthy moments and skillfully developed comedic scenarios that one can either relate to, or well imagine occuring. Yes minister pokes fun and bureaucratic politics, British stuffyness, and would appeal both to those interested in polics and those of an apathetic position. This is a truly unique comedy experience and should be bought, treasured and enjoyed by all - possibly with a nice Gin and Tonic - who enjoy intelligent humour... ...unless you attended the LSE.
You will enjoy Yes Minister if you have appreciated television programmes like 'spitting image', 'have i got news for you', 'bremner, bird and fortune', or 'not the nine o'clock news'.
