Many may see Harry Hill as someone who tells simple jokes and has too many odd moments to be truly funny. But this is not what makes Harry so talented.
I saw his live show in Oxford two years ago and, to be honest, I wasn't expecting to find him so funny! His incredible ability to interweave 7 or 8 different stories together, while making sure you've got enough info to keep up with him, is very impressive. The result is an evening's entertainment I still find myself laughing at today.
His quirks and catchphrases only add to the humor and can only really be funny when taken with everything else. On their own his jokes a juvenile and generally unfunny; if you watch the whole show it all comes together.
Despite all this, the DVD doesn't quite capture the feel of the show or seem quite as funny. But when did a video ever seem as good as the real thing?! Worth a watch all the same, when you get to the end you'll understand what makes him so hilarious.
Kim Basinger plays a teacher in this film. She is married to a lawyer and has one son. On a 'normal' day she gets kidnapped from her home and, afer being locked up, tries to fix the broken phone(slightly unlikely, but without this minor point there would be no story) to enable her to call for help.
Cris Evans (Not to be confused with the red haired man from btittish radio/tv) is a carefree young man who is enjoying the younger years of his life which includes chasing girls and fooling arround.
Whilst running an errant for an ex-girlfriend he recieves a call, it is jessica (kim B) who pleads with him for help.
He finally agrees to help her but soon gets entangled in the situation. This entanglemant leads im to break the law on several ocasions, get shot at and risk his life on several occasions.
The plot is well constructed and the actors make easy work of it all. Some twist in the story and nice action stunts and viusuals complete the package.
This good Action Thriller should appeal to both sexes and is excellent friday night viewing.
enjoy.
Superb stoy, well acted and executed.
Mark wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson and co-actors perform brilliantly in this nicely paced action film about 4 adopted brothers from mixed races who's mother gets gunned down in a so called corner shop robbery. When the 4 brothers come together for the funeral they soon figure out that this was no 'real' robbery but that there was something else going on. They now start to investigate why their mother was shot and this leads to wonderful action scenes and superb dialogue between the characters.
My partner, who normally never watches movies of this genre said it was an excellent film which proved that the makers have got the balance right with this file and will definately appeal to both men and women.
Enjoyment of the highest scale very good for a film night in.
I Would have a think about letting the kids watch it though(depending on age), as some scenes can be pretty violent.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Genius! Alba in a bikini. Pure genius!!
Genius! Walker with his 12-pack out. Pure genius!!
There's not much point saying a lot about the film - it's inoffensive enough and looks wonderful, but we all know that's not what's gonna shift all those units.
Genius! Pure genius!! I didn't like it too much, but I'm gonna watch it again.
Genius.......
First film was great, more holes than a Swiss cheese and all that, but great fun nonetheless.
So maybe it was the anticipation of another slice of this nasty cheese just a year after the first that ultimately undoes this film.
It's shambolic, unpleasant (not in a good way), overbearing (not in a good way), badly acted (not in a good way) - well, you get the gist.
Tobin Bell is just as good as before and Jigsaw is still a great villain - but the spot-on claustrophobia of Saw has been replaced by the suffocation of too many victims, none of which you'll care too much about.
Donnie Wahlberg's attempt at guilt-ridden angst is more akin to watching a drunk fumbling for his zipper, knowing time is running out and he's not gonna get it. 'It' being acting in Wahlberg's case.
The film is only worth watching for the wonderful devices that Jigsaw creates, but the viewer is given the finger at the end when we realise there is to be a new Jigsaw who's best weapon seems to be sweaty pits.
Such a shame....
An all action, guns blazing film set on New Year's Eve in Detroit. Police Sergeant Jake Roenick (Ethan Hawke), is an ex undercover cop who has been left in charge of the last shift at the dilapidated Precinct 13 police station, before it closes its doors for the last time. A snowstorm causes a bus containing a number of criminals to divert to the station. The criminals include Marion Bishop (Laurence Fisburne)a famous criminal mastermind who has fallen out with the bent cops who have been in his pay. The bent cops are led by Marcus Duvall (Gabriel Byrne), who with apparently all police force resources at his finger tips, wants to kill Bishop before he gives evidence in court blowing open the police corruption. Duvall and his "force" puts the police station under siege. Those inside unite, good cops, criminals and those caught up by mistake to defend themselves from all comers. Entertaining but far fetched. The usual twists and turns and guessing who will be alive at the end of the film, keeps you watching. Not one for those wanting something deep and meaningful to ponder on, but will occupy you happily enough for a couple of hours.
Memories of Murder, is a film that will haunt the viewers memory. It tells the true story of a hunt for a serial killer from the cops point of view, set against a background of city versus country culture clash and the backward situation of crime investigation in the post war South. The director Jim-Ho bong quickly establishes, not only a climate of fear and apprehension, but also mistrust between the rival cops. In this engaging rivalry it is Kang-Ho Song who steals the picture as a country cop, completely out of his depth, whose short comings only start to dawn on him as his personal life becomes affected. Beautifully shot and poignant, this is a different slant on a well worn genre that benefits repeat viewing.
The best concert your could ever see, ten out ten.
The must seen event of the year 2005.
Wow. The morning after watching this film and I think my adrenaline is still pumping. Starring Robert DeNiro and the child prodigy Dakota Fanning it already has a solid base to build from.
The story revolves around David (DeNiro) and his daughter Emily (Fanning), a troubled child following the suicide of her mother. Seeking a fresh start David takes his daughter upstate to a small town, His new neighbours may seem a little weird but it"s at home where things soon start to go wrong. Emily refuses to talk to her father and creates an imaginary friend called "Charlie". Things soon start to turn sinister as violent incidents occur around the house of which Charlie is blamed for. Charlie simply doesn"t like David.
The film is full of suspense and tension which will keep you gripped till the end. So many times will you find yourself thinking "Ah, I know what"s going on here", "He"s not imaginary" or "He"s the real Charlie" but you"ll always be finding yourself proved wrong or changing your mind.
Fanning"s acting is again flawless and when you think of her other films such as "Man on Fire" you being to wonder.. Is she really a 10 year old or is she actually a 40 year old seasoned pro trapped in a little girl"s body? With her new hair colour and saucer like eyes she plays the dark role perfectly. Meanwhile, after starring in such films as "Meet the Fockers", DeNiro finds himself in a role which is reminiscent his earlier films. If you"re anything like me you"ll be so happy towards then end of the film thinking to yourself "Now this is true DeNiro and it"s about time!".
If you want a suspense filled experience with many twists and turns then this mixture of "The Shining" and "Sixth Sense" is the film you should see. Most of all, If you are a fan of DeNiro I strongly recommend you see this film just to see him in a glimpse of all his former glory.
An absorbing masterpiece which can leave you feeling so utterly depressed at one point yet uplifted and enlightened at another - a film which can be so complex yet so uncomplicated. It is often the low budget films which can impress the most and this is no exception. Helped by it"s star studded cast, I cannot recall seeing a film with so many credible and utterly commanding characters, each having traits you so easily find yourself relating to. With so many plot twists and turns the outstanding script and flawless acting leaves you forgetting you are watching a film and leaves you totally engrossed.
The multiethnic cast of characters sees their paths entwined by a crash leading to a hectic cycle of racial resentment and intolerance. The message behind the film lies in the characters paranoia of being victims of racial abuse that they can no longer live together rationally. Many scenes will leave you horrified and disturbed for many different reasons whilst others with stun you with its simplicity and beauty as the consequences lead to reawakening for not only each character but also yourself. Few films contain such powerful scenes as this.
In a politically correct world, especially in Hollywood, it is rare to find anything that confronts difficult issues head-on but not only does it succeed in doing this it completely destroys the issue. In his first film since Million Dollar Baby, Paul Haggis has created an instant classic. If I could recommend just one film to you from the past year it would be, without doubt, this one.
Easily mistaken for the latest advertisement of Nokia, The fast paced action thriller Cellular, given its chance, can certainly be worthy of a watch. Featuring a star studded cast such as Kim Basinger, William Macy and the cockney charmer himself, Jason Statham the film features everything needed for a roller coaster ride â€" car chases, gun battles, tension, twists, crooked cops and even a few moments of comedy.
Taking the lead roles are Basinger and Hollywood's latest teen heart throb Chris Evans ("not another teen movie"). Jessica Martin (Basinger) is kidnapped and locked in an attic with only a smashed up phone. After managing to connect some wires she manages to call a complete stranger - Ricky (Evans). After convincing him she's been kidnapped the film follows his struggle to not only keep the line going but also save Jessica and her family from the twisted mess of corruption which sees Statham in his familiar gangster like role. After a dubious beginning this is where the film really comes into its own. Packing a lot of thrills into a short space it manages to keep the level of tension consistently high.
Although the film is never going to break through the mould with cinematic originality it is still going to entertain you and keep you on the edge of your seat. A mixture of Speed, Phonebooth and Enemy of the State the film is certainly worth a watch.
THERE'S A HUGE 80's WHIFF ABOUT THIS DOUBLE DISC DELIGHT AND ALL THE BETTER IT IS FOR IT TOO!!
BILL MURRAY IS ON TOP FORM AND HIS SARDONIC VENKMAN IS A GREAT FOIL FOR ACKROYD'S WIDE-EYED RAY.
RICK MORANIS CERTAINLY GRATES ON THE NERVES AND SOME OF THE EFFECTS ARE WELL SHODDY.
HOWEVER, HOPEFULLY YOU ARE LIKE ME AND CANT HELP SMILING YOUR WAY THRU BOTH FILMS (ESPECIALLY THE FIRST) - AND YOU'LL KEEP ON SMILING WITH THIS DELUXE TREATMENT OF THE FILMS.
NOT A HUGE AMOUNT IN THE WAY OF EXTRAS, BUT IT IS LOVINGLY CRAFTED,THE OUTER PACKAGING LOOKS GREAT AND THE FREE SCRAPBOOK IS THE CHERRY ON TOP.
ON FOR NOSTALGIA FREAKS, BUT THAT AINT A BAD THING TO BE NOW AND AGAIN...
This film has some really nice affects his weapons etc are great and it gives you an indepth feel for how Bruce started out and why. Now my biggest problem with this film is if you are an avid viewer of these films as I am you will know who killed bruce's parents in the first film (The Joker) I'm sure you knew but watch this and you get given someone different in a different setting I mean where is the taxi that drove off leaving them to fend for themselves. Apart from that major ovelook its a very enjoyable film that you can sit back and watch relish the fighting, savour the weapons and best of all watch good triumph over evil.
At first I was not interested in this, but after a friend of mine got me the first season, I'm hooked on it!
Its great to see Females in an action enviroment. And Jennifer Garner can certanley look after herself!
From the first minute to the last it will have you wanting more!
Great writting and direction!
10 out of 10!
A defining piece of British cinematography. This is a brutal depiction of one man's mission to avenge his brother; yet amoungst the violence, the film is strangely touching. A word of warning: this film is not for the faint hearted! The violence is graphic and cold, but more than this; this film is psychologicallty chilling; not because of any big Hollywood style special effects; but because of the strange oxymoronic feelings that it provokes: brutal-tenderness, angry-serenity and satisfied-angst! A real Britsh masterpiece that will leave you with a very bitter taste in your mouth!
I am the worlds worst at "disciplinary TV watching", having to remember to sit and watch a TV series week after week. For this reason I was never convinced by 24 when it was on TV but having borrowed it from a colleague I am completle gripped by it's fast paced, extremely well thought out plot. The idea is epic in itself let alone writting the screen plays. The performances by the actors involved draw you into the plot very quickly so you can take a front row "need to know basis" seat on the rollercoaster of conspiracies and deceipt. A magnificent example of first class, all action, looking down the telescopic sites of the hunter and the hunted. It takes the meaning of "TV series" into the Abyss.
The genre of Horror is a broad one to say the least but this film doesnt just cover this, but as said in its tagline 'Zom, Rom, Com' it is a great zombie, romance and comedy that makes this film what it is. SImon Pegg and Nick Frost setup and all star English cast and lead them to victory in the fight over Zombie earth. This effortless classic is basic enough to be funny without being too children friendly. A Great Friday night film!
Deeply thoughtful but without falling into the trap of the self-consciously clever, Crash even succeeds in drawing us into the lives of characters with whom we find it hard to imagine we would ever empathise. Comparisons with critically-acclaimed predecessors such as Magnolia are in fact more flattering to the earlier works than they are to Paul Haggis's film simply because every single character and every situation here seems entirely plausible. The cast turn in uniformly excellent performances and make full use of a tightly written script and direction that doesn't waste shots. Some scenes make incredibly uncomfortable viewing while others are achingly poignant but the interweaving of cause and effect in the lives of the protagonists is so well played and written that every wrong move is made understandable without removing the responsibility of each character for their actions - a difficult balance to strike - in film and in life. It is this accurate depiction of the human condition with all its greatness and all of its flaws which means we leave this film wondering - and perhaps talking - about who and what we are - which is never a bad thing.
MCGREGOR - MORE; JOHANSSON - PHWOARR; BEAN - SNORE; BANGS & COPTERS GALORE!!
THERE YOU GO, THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW REALLY - THERE'S ALSO A VERY GOOD LORRY/FUTURE BIKE CHASE, GREAT AT THE CINEMA BUT ON DVD PROBABLY NOT SO.
COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY GOOD IDEA IF BAY HAD FOLLOWED THRU WITH THE CONCEPT BUT EXPLOSIONS ARE TOO EASY A DEVICE TO USE TO TRY COVER UP GAPING HOLES.
MUST TRY HARDER..............
The first Blade film nearly had me punching the air. It is was an energising, borderline inspiring film, and brilliant for its rendition of a comic book character in a way that is true to the medium. When Blade 2 was out on DVD I saw it with friends and immediately forgot about it. That, it transpires, was good practice. The second viewing of the film made me want to punch the studio executives, and jump over furniture, diving for the remote at about one quarter distance. Ron Perlman's appearance in this film, as in Alien Resurrection, is a signal that the movie is about to descend to Hell, Boy. Why does Hollywood fail so consistently with sequels? One suspects that a proven formula attracts rather too many marketing 'creatives'. All the things that made the first film watchable are absent, namely atmosphere, interest, characterisation, and, oh yes, story. All sacrificed on the inverted cross of mass appeal; the great many who measure the success of a film by the number of explosions will not be disappointed, however. The plot is lame. A new species of Vampire with articulated jaws is able to prey on old model vampires who thus face classical Darwinian redundancy. Blade is recruited by Perlman et.al. to defend the status quo in quasi-military fashion. If that is insufficiently contrived, the casting director has another stake to drive through your cerebrum. Do you hate it when you see a face in a film you cannot quite place? You're lost because you think it may be a comedic actor? Yep, enter Danny John Jules - the Cat from Red Dwarf. It's tempting to speculate he got the part owing to his experience wearing fake fangs. As for why Luke Goss got a part as the undead, best not go there. The Vampire genus of the horror species is over populated. There is no point in reviving the corpse after Nosferatu (1922), the Hammer films, Interview, and Blade. We don't really need to know about the morphology or the evolution of the vampire parasite. It's just not interesting, and a bit too anorakish. Blade 2 is sucked dry of any charm or mystery. Someone should expose new vampire films to sunlight before they are developed.
