This superb collection contains the best comic book adaptation ever seen on the silver screen. An unknown actor at the time CHRISTOPHER REEVE (superman)puts in one of the most convincing superhero actors ever, from awkward Clark Kent to a powerful superhero. The score is top notch yet another classic theme tune from John Williams. Films 1&2 are easily superior to 3&4 but still decent films non the less. One thing to remember about these films is that the special effects are mind blowing, this is before the digital age of special effects.
Its rated 3 out of 4 due to the lack of special features on discs 2,3 and 4. Simply put these are a must for anyone young at heart.
One of the most moving films I have ever seen! I've got to admit, I'm not really a soppy person, and I wouldn't usually watch movies like this, but the amount of people that had told me that I 'needed' to se this film, I thought maybe I'd give it a shot. And I must say that I'm very glad that I did. It was one of the most romantic movies I've seen in a while, and it has a lot of classic tear-jerking moments in it. I haven't actually read the book to it yet, but I think I will most definately be on the lookout for it now! If you haven't yet seen this movie, then get out and rent or buy it! Give it a shot!
The greatest comedy you could imagine. With the success of the amazing series 4, Seinfeld breaks all the boundries with hillarious situations and incredibly funny insites into mentaly destroying up bringing of George Louis Costanza that has made him the way he is. Featuring some of the greatest jokes ever such as, "it's like I'm Neil Armstrong, I turn round for a sip of tang, an you jump out first". More individual storylines for Kramer involving his never seen other friends. And of course after both George's parents made small entries into the world of Seinfeld, series 5 sees more of the hillarious disfunctual pair which can only be described as terribly fantastic. A must see for anyone who loves to laugh, the show about nothing reaches new levels seeing the genious of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld's creation standing steadilly on top of all comedy's. Every story in every popular american sitcom since has had influence from the gangs experiences, which is extremely evident in this fantastic series. Finaly on dvd, the much awaited Seinfeld series 5 hits our screens in style, if you buy anything this year, buy this "BABY!!!"
Wow! I must have seen this film over a year ago!I can't believe it's taken sooooooo long for it to be released on DVD. Especially considering what a brilliant film it is. This is black comedy at it's very best. The story follows a luckless alcoholic who poses as Santa Claus (Billy Bob Thornton)in various department stores every year along with his vertically challenged sidekick. Together they proceed to rob the safes and strongrooms of each store they work at with hilarious consequences. Along the way Billy Bob reluctantly befriends a small (and very inquisitive) child and basically takes advantage of the childs naive good nature by going along with the idea that he is in fact the real Santa Claus. This culminates in him moving into the childs space-cadet grandmothers house and living there rent free, treating the place as his own. Be prepared for swearing galore, violence and gratuitous scenes of alcoholism (particularily when Billy Bob arrives paraletic to endure a days work as Santa, listening to kids spout off about their Xmas present requirements and proceeds to fall about the place and even pee himself!). The cast is brillant with Billy Bob Thornton going down a storm as the foul-mouthed, desperate, constantly drunk, occasionally incoherent but largely incapable Santa Claus. Bernie Mac is also very funny in his role as the detective hot on the trail of the two robbers. All in all, this film is a highly offensive, sad in parts and heartwarming tale of a man trying to better himself. An absolute must watch hoot of a movie! Long overdue for release and highly recommended.
love scrubs, the 1st and the 2nd series, and i call it a crime i have to work fridays nights. so thats why god invented the dvd player and the box set, along with the chinese takeaway. what more can you want than putting your feet up and taking the hotties and the one liners?
The only downfall is you have to get back up because season 3 isn't out yet.
This is one of the best seasons of charmed, even though not many people like it if you saw this season you would be hooked to it! i would recommend it to any fans of the supernatural!
fantastic movie! This is so much more than just another gangster film. Johnny Depp and Al Pacino are excellent as the lead roles. Depp is a cop who goes undercover as a member of the mob. Very interesting to see Depp's transition from a cop to bad guy.....even more interestiong is seeing how easy that transition is....
One of the best films i have seen! La Haine was part of my curriculum for a film studies course. The film seems so real throughout and very enjoyable and thought-provoking. Definitely recommend it to anyone.
I was always a fan of the star trek series, but after the next generation series the story line began to fall ie: deep space nine, once describe as 'a soap in space'. I look forward to this new series, I was not disappointed, the characters were more believeable, at last a male captain, Jonathan Archer, a female sub commander, T'pol a vulcan in the great star trek tradition, you would of thought their would of been some sexual chemistry between them, nope! you would be wrong.
In this series takes you back to the beginning, if you had seen the film 'star trek- first contact' it takes a lot references from this, don't be put off! The star ship enterprise it's self, is a very good idea, not many lifts, plenty of ladders, not much armour or fire power.
The first series starts with the meddling Klingons, then continues into next with defending the earth from a race of aliens committed to destroying our planet, again!
Then finally, the last series, for the people who interested in star trek series who alway wanted to know why, things like the Klingons, the Romulans always had a grudge or how the race of super genetic humans came about, even Data, all is revealed
It is a shame the star trek franchise has came to a end, it will be sadly missed, but we can buy these series and choose the one's we prefer.
Robert Carlisle as the policeman was an excellent piece of casting.Very edge of the seat thriller i would like to see more like this.
The flood in the town is only a minor part of what is an excellent action movie, it certainly has a lot more depth to it than Armageddon or Deep Impact for example, and unlike Twister it has a plot.
So what's it all about then? When the small town of Huntingburg gets flooded, an armoured car is called for to collect the bank money and transport it to safety, however, a small time gang of thieves have alternative ideas for the money. This turns into a non-stop action thriller where Tom (Christian Slater) is the only person standing between the gang and three million dollars. With a star studded cast, this makes an excellent evenings light entertainment.
In Northern Thailand, a statue in a Buddhist temple named 'Ong Bak' is stolen, so Ting (Played by Tony Jaa), is sent to go to Bangkok and retreive it. What is notable about this film is that there are no special effects or CGI, the action is done for real, using real human actors for the violence. If you like martial arts and fast-paced action, you will LOVE this movie.
One average film, another below average film. The average film is the Matrix Reloaded; a continuation of the Matrix saga. While the overall plot is very deep and philosophical, perhaps too much for the regular film-goer, the action is great. The below average film is Constantine, a story about a man who is trying to get his way into heaven by fighting demons, the film has religious themes and lots of action, the plot, however, is quite weak.
In the second chapter of the animated series, there is a marked transition in the characters, technology and the overall political climate of the Star Wars universe. In this volume the main story is about the Separatist attack on Coruscant and consequent kidnapping of Palpatine which leads right into the beginning of the latest movie: Revenge of the Sith. A sidestory of volume two pertains to the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan; they are shown to be great friends which makes watching the latest movie all the more tragic.
An absoloutely hilarious film, I couldnt stop laughing out loud from start to finish. The script was packed with discreet and not so discreet humour through out. Scott thomas and his best friend traveled through Europe in search for Scott's hot e-mail friend Miekke who he had mistaken for a man. In a combination of unreliable travel they make it to europe and the adventures begin. If you like 'American Pie' you will you love this film!
Unless you've been living with the blue and green lint inside your tumble dryer for the past 5 years the film adapations of JRR Tolkiens beloved novel Lord of the Rings need little introduction. If, like I, you sat in the cinema and experienced the thrill of Peter Jacksons faithful, measured and downright thrilling installments of the Fellowship, the Two Towers and Return of the King then you'll have been counting down the days to the release of this final Extended jam-packed 4-disc special.
Completing one of the most talked about triologies since Star Wars or the Matrix must have been a joy for Jackson because this special edition once more oozes with excellence. Besides the edition of a further 40 minutes to the already hefty running time (building on scenes cut short and resolving the absent Saruman saga) the box set includes a WEALTH of extras. Multiple commentaries from crew and most of the cast are bolstered by two extensive Appendix sections, covering every aspect of this incredible production.
This really is the final word on a fantastic cinematic experience. Die Hard Tolkinites (if that's the term) may quibble over minor plot changes/ admissions, but for the rest of us The Return of the King wonderfully brought to a close an adventure that's lasted 5 years.
Unmissable.
I have been ill recently and I watched Return to Me with my wife and it was one of the best feel good movies I have seen. David Duchnovy and Minnie Driver were the perfect foil for each other. The supporting cast of Robert Loggia, James Belushi and Carroll O'Connor were equally as good . It was a pleasure to sit through a movie with no bad language. The soundtrack was excellent too. All in all nine out of ten. Ideal for people in love.
Fantastic art film, the oppression and tension can be felt through the cinematography. Performances are inspiring particularly Bruce Willis and Elijah Wood. The contrasting of colours and inter-twining of storylines pulls you into the film although you don't need much encouragement. A film where you spot the variety of actors with exciment and are blown away with their performances. I give it a top rating it is a must see.
If you like Depeche Mode, then this is them at their very best. Fantastic recording, great camera work & stage show. Watch it with surround sound to really capture the atmosphere from this great venue.
Terms of Endearment charts the tempestous relationship between mother and daughter (Shirley McClaine, Debra Winger)over several decades. The film is insightful in its handling of the relationship between McClaine and Winger moving seemlessly from comedy to tragedy without ever losing credibility during this trasition. The acting is uniformly excellent particularly McClaine's and Jack Nicholson's both of whom won oscars for their sensitive performances.
