Bill Bruford was a founding member of Yes through the years 1968-1972 and while with the band recorded five albums each of which was more successful than its predecessor. When Bill left Yes in 1972 for King Crimson following the release of 'Close To The Edge' there were those who concluded that he'd taken leave of his senses. But it proved an astute musical move. When King Crimson's enigmatic leader Robert Fripp decided to split the band after three tumultuous albums and move on to other projects Bill moved to playing countless sessions and was also briefly a member of the bands National Health Gong and more famously Genesis where he played alongside Phil Collins who had just stepped up to the microphone following the departure of Peter Gabriel. Bill was the drummer in the live Genesis situation and was with the band for the majority of 1976 while the band toured their album 'A Trick Of The Tail'. Volume 2 - 1990s: This DVD is the second in a two volume anthology of previously unreleased concert footage of Bill Bruford's Earthworks one of the longest lived best travelled and most original jazz quartets. This volume chronicles the band's progress through the 1990s from its electronic start to its acoustic renaissance; volume 1 does the same for the 2000s. The group was originated as a vehicle for Bruford's unusual and innovative use of electronic percussion and did much to challenge perceptions about what a drummer should or should not be doing in jazz. Filmed on tour in Germany 1991 Japan 1991 and Bulgaria 1999 Earthworks continues to offer a platform to the brightest and best young players.
The student will learn to straighten out his or her time so it's consistent and even. Tony shows how to identify downbeats upbeats and inbetween beats while playing increasingly tricky rolls. A great learning method.

A documentary about the life of its proprietor and the works of Death Row record label, Suge Knight On The Real is executively-produced by the man himself and was made in 2001, following his release from prison after a sentence for parole violations. The story of Death Row records is a colourful one to say the least, the unofficial version of which is best told in Ronin Ro's Have Gun Will Travel: The Spectacular Rise And Violent Fall Of Death Row Records. This, however, is a decidedly official version that alludes only obscurely and fleetingly to the stories of corruption, violence and high-profile murder that have engorged Death Row from its early 90s beginnings. The segments featuring Knight himself are thoroughly dispensable. The sound quality is poor while Knight rambles like a sort of Stateside Terry Major-Ball, going on at some length about why he thought it necessary to bring along tennis shoes to court on the day of sentencing. His one interesting snippet is his bitchy assertion that Death Row star Dr Dre once told him he desperately wished he were white. The musical clips, a potted history of Death Row, are what make this a worthwhile purchase. Snoop Doggy Dogg, Dr Dre and Tupac Shakur are all featured here and while the subject matter of both the rappers and the videos is often depressingly boorish to the point of obnoxious--pathetic fixations on jewellery, status, "booty" and so on--the mostly Dre-generated, low-riding P-Funk rhythms are irresistible.
