Worried About the Boy is a 90 minute film featuring talented newcomer Douglas Booth Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) Marc Warren (Hustle) and Mark Gatiss for BBC2's season of celebratory programming on the 1980s. At its heart it is a coming-of-age story about a 19 year old boy moving to London establishing his personal independence and becoming an influential part of a fashion cult. In the past 30 odd years George O'Dowd has made more than a few headlines. This film concentrates in particular the period between 1980 and 1982 just before the success of Culture Club's Do You Really changed his life. Living in a squat on Great Titchfield Street regularly attending the Blitz Club falling in and out of love being photographed for looking fabulous forming a band... these are experiences that any 19 year old dreams of. George O'Dowd became famous all over the world simply by being himself. The film is a compassionate biography of a much loved icon. Boy George's debut appearance on Top of the Pops was the defining televisual moment of 1982; it heralded in a new era of fashion and pop music. The film takes a wry look at Boy George's determination to stand out from the crowd - even a crowd as distinctive as the Blitz kids. His success was unprecedented - changing a whole generation's attitude to music and gender. Worried About The Boy is an affectionate look at a much-loved icon. The title is taken from a 1986 newspaper headline which broke during George's heavily-reported drug problem of the time - even through the bad times the film shows how the public's affection for Boy George has remained.

Killing Joke need little introduction. Taking their name from a British phrase referring to an ironic or paradoxical situation or event their brand of apocalyptic post punk and fiercely intense live shows fast established them as one of the most original bands to emerge from the UK in the late 70's. Fronted by self confessed misanthropist Jaz Coleman his influence along with guitarist Geordie and bass players Youth and later Raven can be found in bands such as Metallica Marilyn M

By packaging concerts by two of the genre's most celebrated musicians and distinctive partnerships together on Famous Jazz Duets, the Arthaus label has given jazz experts something to celebrate and newcomers the chance to hear just how mesmerising this level of musicianship can be. Pianist and composer Chick Corea has been working with Gary Burton, perhaps the only world-class vibraphonist there has ever been, since 1970. This is a partnership founded on instinctive artistry. Captured here in a 1981 concert at Tokyo's Yubin Chokin Hall, they play a totally entrancing set of Corea's pieces. Highlights are several delightful "Children's Songs" and the concluding composition, "La Fiesta", in which they take turns to work magic with the overlying melody. Most contagious of all is the sheer, simple delight they obviously take in each other's work. Pianist and sometimes singer Carla Bley has been a major participant in the modern jazz world, both as an artist and mentor. Playing here with bass specialist Steve Swallow in a 1988 concert, she is an intriguing and compelling figure to watch; intense and hypnotic, her compositions command undivided attention. And this partnership's treatment of the traditional spiritual "Soon I Will Be Done with the Troubles of the World" is an emotional tour de force. They can ham it up too, as "Very Very Simple" shows. On the DVD: the 4:3 picture format provides standard video quality totally in keeping with the 1980s production standards of these concerts. Don't expect the stagecraft to match the artistry. But the PCM Stereo is ideally suited to what are, after all, intimate performances in the sense that, while these partnerships are sharing their talent with large audiences, they are also clearly playing for each other's enjoyment. No extras are included except good, detailed booklet notes.--Piers Ford
