A center producing synthetic nourishments for the Third World is rocked by a huge explosion. A cloud of toxic gas fills the air and asphyxiates the workers. A special Squad is sent - their mission is to destroy the energy formula and end the blood-crazed zombies reign of terror. Bruno Mattei's former Video Nasty title Zombie Creeping Flesh makes a serious point - that if you don't feed the Third World they'll come and feed on you! Previously banned Uncut version!
The Terminator was the film that cemented Arnold Schwarzenegger's place in the action-brawn firmament, and both his and the movie's subsequent iconic status are well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg that kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and are all the more chillingly effective for it. But don't overlook the contribution of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor, thus creating--along with Sigourney Weaver in Alien--a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. The film's minimalist, malevolent violence is actually scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel. --Anne Hurley
This 1956 Falstaff from Radiotelevisione Italiana is one of the finest of the many studio productions that RAI presented in the 1950s. In addition to the presence of the legendary maestro Tullio Serafin there is the elegant physical production and brilliant staging by the renowned opera director Herbert Graf. the top-notch cast includes a number of singers particularly associated with this opera. Anna Moffo scored many of her early successes as Nannetta often opposite Luigi Alva's Fenton. Just a month after appearing in this production the two joined the cast of the studio recording of Falstaff under Karajan also featuring Fedora Barbieri as Mrs Quickly. Giuseppe Taddei Rosanna Carteri and Anna Maria Canali had also taken part in a 1949 Cetra recording of the opera. Taddei Rosanna Carteri and Anna Maria Canali had also taken part in a 1949 Cetra recording of the opera. Taddei who made a specialty of the title role began his long career in the mid-1930s.
Shot back to back with 'Emanuelle In Prison' 'Violence In A Woman's Prison' is along the lines of 'The Concrete Jungle' and such other caged delights. Laura Gemser plays yet another Emanuelle a reporter who goes to prison undercover on trumped up charges to expose the corruption within the prison and to secure a scoop about the bad conditions run by sadistic warden Lorraine De Selle. Naturally the place is a hellhole. Gemser bares her fabulous body has sex with Gabrielle Tinti dumps a bucket of faeces on a guard and spends time in the hole where she is devoured and chewed on by hungry rats! Extremely kinky as expected with Mattei managing to stage a somewhat bizarre art rape-scene which looks like something from a Tinto Brass movie where the warden and her lover gets horny while watching a girl being raped and beaten up by male inmates (oh yes there are male inmates here too!). Lorraine De Selle is great as the evil warden and there's another loud great soundtrack by Luigi Ceccaralli.
Director Renny Harlin (Cutthroat Island) took the reins of this 1990 sequel, which places Bruce Willis's New York City cop character in harm's way again with a gaggle of terrorists. This time, Willis awaits his wife's arrival at Dulles Airport in Washington, DC, when he gets wind of a plot to blow up the facility. Noisy, overbearing and forgettable, the film has none of the purity of its predecessor's simple story; and it makes a huge miscalculation in allowing a terrible tragedy to occur rather than stretch out the tension. Where Die Hard set new precedents in action movies, Die Hard 2 is just an anything-goes spectacle. -- Tom Keogh, Amazon.com
