Drama starring Dorothy Lamour as a tavern singer whose charms any number of men seem powerless to resist. Lulu Belle (Lamour)'s first catch is George Davis (George Montgomery), a wealthy young lawyer who sees her singing in Mississippi in the early years of the 20th century and is so taken by her that he abandons both his fiancée and career to be with her. When George's money starts to run out, Lulu suddenly finds herself becoming close to gambler Mark Brady (Albert Dekker) and boxer Butch Cooper (Greg McClure), triggering a fit of jealously in George that leads him to attack the latter and earn a prison sentence. The free again Lulu absconds to New York with millionaire Harry Randolph (Otto Kruger), where she becomes a singing sensation on Broadway. Her life seems perfect. However, when Harry asks her to marry him she is surprised to find her thoughts returning to the penniless George. Is he the one for her after all?
