I didn't watch it on Disney as I thought it would be purely for children how wrong was I.
HSM1, focuses on a basketball champ Troy, and a brilliant maths genius Gabriella. They meet on new years eve and despite all the things against them and the scorn of their friends, they both audition for the school show. Setbacks happen but they overcome it to win the lead roles and the acceptance of their peers.
HSM2 focuses on working through their summer vacation at the country club belonging to two of their class mates who happen to be part of a rich family. The daughter of whom wants Troy for herself and will stop at nothing to get him but love prevails. Summer works out and lessons are learnt.
Excellent acting, Very catchy and well sung music. I guarantee you will end up feet tapping and singing along at some point. For girls of all ages no matter how old.
One of britains finest boxers in action - a must for fans of the sport a great buy a must have dvd.
The on screen camaraderie between Michael Shanks and Richard Dean Anderson is in short supply in this series of this popular sci-fi series. Mainly down to the fact that Anderson as stepped back from the series with only a few rare appearances. However the introduction of two new characters as added some much needed new blood.
Claudia Black joins the series. An appearance in the previous series was amusing and it continues through into this series. The on screen sparks between between Shanks and Black often makes up for the recycle plot-lines or lack there of a plot.
Ben Browder, Black's co star from Farscape also joins the cast as the new leader of SG1. His witty one liners and his interaction with the other cast members makes amusing viewing.
However with the lack of any serious story-lines this series leaves feeling very disappointed. It is however worth watching even if it is only for the interaction between Michael Shanks and Claudia Black.
3 OUT of 5
Very good series, but not the same series now that Jack is not around and going through the game every time.
Looking forward to the extended episodes.
Although the pilot episode was very well written, i found it generally deteriorated from there over the season. Some characters were very likable, the little girl for example who come more into her own in the second season and the lily interaction, however some of the plot lines were very predictable as were the majority of the characters. I did find that it got slightly better at the season end but there was quite alot to endure before you reached that point. I haven't yet seen the third and fourth seasons but I hope they do better with their filler episodes.
I don't understand why this film was made. It's the only Halloween movie which doesn't feature the legendary Michael Myers and we have to ask... why? What is the purpose of this film? It's supposed to be the third in the Halloween series and after the success of the first two we were expecting Halloween 3 to be even better than, if not match, the first two. But in reality this film has nothing to do with the original Halloween storyline at all, it shouldn't even be privileged to have the title 'Halloween'.
The film itself isn't a bad idea, just poorly executed. If it was just called 'Season of the Witch' then maybe it would have been better, but the fact that it is supposed to lead on from Halloween 2 makes this film very poor. It should be renamed and took out of the Halloween series for good, only then will it gain a bit more respect.
If you"re a fan of fast paced action, don't mind reading subtitles and like unique special effects then this IS the film for you!
If you hate all of the above, you are better off looking elsewhere.
The film is a great success and its cult popularity has grown and grown and with the release of the much anticipated sequel Day Watch its popularity ever increases.
When I first saw this film I was amazed that I had never heard of it before the special effects are unique and at the same time breathtaking.
The dialogue (All though in Russian with English subtitles) is excellent showing great script writing.
This film is one of the first foreign films I watched, never being a fan of subtitled films, but now I am addicted to them.
If you love foreign films, and buy one this month, buy Night Watch, if you buy two this month Buy Night Watch and Day Watch.
And even if you are not too sure about Foreign Films, give this one a chance and i'm sure you won't regret it.
Classic tale of Dark Versus light told in an engrossing way that will keep you hooked from beginning to end.
I bought this after getting into the series 4 years late and it's great to see where all the characters began. Some of them are not as polished as they are by series 5, but it doesn't matter because it's still funny every episode and different from anything else on the box. Well worth a watch.
An introduction to the loons of the Chatsworth estate.... a bunch of loveable, lying, cheating but most of all hilarious rogues.
Amazingly funny...100 out of 10!
Soooo funny! I can't wait to own this on dvd. Cris Lilley is a comic genius!
This film begins with presenter Mark Eden taking us on a tour around Wilton's Music Hall in London's East End, now derelict and in a sorry state, but in the days before cinema one of the most popular venues for a good, cheap night out. The history of "the halls" from the 1850s' to the present day is covered, from the long gone Gaiety and Tivoli theatres to the Players and McDonalds, both still going strong in 1968 at the time of this film's release. There is rare archive footage of great music hall favourites including Lily Morris, Gus Elen and Ella Shields (with her hit "Burlington Bertie from Bow"). Helen Shapiro sings "The boy I love is up in the gallery" one of Marie Lloyd's most popular numbers and Sheila Bernette, a great favourite for years at the Players Theatre performs "Why do they always pick on me?". Barry Cryer is on hand as master of ceremonies and there are great performances from Irene Frederick and Barri Chat, one of the most famous female impersonators of his time. A fascinating glimpse into a almost vanished mode of entertainment but one which was unequalled in popularity for many years.
Wonderful to finally have this movie on DVD, as it has been rarely shown on television over the years. The film is based on the notorious true case of Hawley Harvey Crippen in 1910. Donald Pleasence gives an understated performance as Crippen, the doctor relentlessly bullied by his vitriolic wife Belle, played to great effect by Coral Browne. She is a second rate music hall singer who flaunts her lovers in front of her timid husband and berates him for neglecting her in the bedroom. Crippen finds solace in the arms of his secretary, Ethel Le Neve (Samantha Eggar) who he moves into his home when his wife disappears. Belle's friends become suspicious when Ethel is seen wearing Mrs Crippen's clothes and jewellery and do not believe the Doctor's story of her returning to and subsequently dying in America. Crippen persuades his lover to run away with him, convincing her that the police may arrest him unfairly if they stay, even getting her to disguise herself as a boy on board the ship they sail on to avoid suspicion. A highly enjoyable film with great performances.
My son is what I would call the biggest fan of In the night garden ,even though I get sick of watching it, it keeps my son entertained so I can get house work done!
I love this DVD! Before I had it, I used to have to watch a video, taped off the telly. The quality Is excellent, and I would definately recommend this to my friends. This isn't the only product I will be buying from here!
Excellent, thought provoking contemporary film noir from actor-turned-director Ben Affleck; 'Gone Baby Gone' is a gritty, neo-realist drama focused on the desperate search for a missing 3-year-old girl, and how all involved cope with its aftermath. Affleck's adaptation of Dennis Lahane's crime novella was put on hold due to coincidental similarities with the Madeline McCann case, and there are times when it feels as if you're watching the news. Set in an impoverished Boston suburb; inexperienced young detectives Casey Affleck & Michelle Monahan are hired to work their neighbourhood for clues, paired with cynical cops John Aston & Ed Harris in a high profile investigation commandeered by Massachusetts police captain; Morgan Freeman. Casey Affleck builds upon memorable performances in 'Ocean's 13', 'Lonesome Jim' and 'The Assassination Of Jesse James...' by creating a wet-behind-the-ears everyman whose street smarts serve him well, as he shuffles through the dodgy deck of lowlifes and degenerates who inhabit Boston's criminal underworld. An intense, well paced picture with faultless acting from an exceptional ensemble cast, (though Ed Harris steals a few scenes as only he can) 'Gone Baby Gone' proves beyond any reasonable doubt that the elder Affleck sibling is as capable a director as he is an actor; with an eye for a world rarely depicted onscreen, an ear for colloquial Boston dialect/ slang (some of which is inevitably misunderstood) and a direct, though not exploitative, approach to the subject matter. Similar in direction to Clint Eastwood's 'Mystic River' with thematic nods to 'Man On Fire' and 'Ransom', 'Gone Baby Gone' is a relatively downbeat, well paced, brutal and commendably complex film with a twist ridden, morally ambiguous ending that's sure to provoke some debate. A must see.
Gemma Jones plays Louisa Trotter, proprietor of the Bentinck Hotel in London and not to be underestimated! This part of the series is set in the 1900s' during the reign of King Edward V11, who has now ended his affair with Louisa. The episodes on disc 1 include a handsome guest (Anthony Andrews) causing friction between Mrs Trotter and her indispensable housekeeper Mary, an undercover journalist who could cost Louisa her beloved hotel and will the "Queen of Cooks" banquet be ruined because of allegations of corruption between guests after a horse race? Disc 2 begins with a young lady friend of Charlie Tyrrell's causing problems at the Bentinck and it is clear to everyone that she is not what she seems and Louisa decides to buy a house on the Isle of Wight but comes up against prejudice and snobbery during Cowes week. Edward V11 is dead and Mrs Trotter and her staff mourn the person who made the hotel possible in the first place and Charlie shows real interest in marriage for once. Will Louise give her blessing or put a spanner in his works? John Hawkesworth produced this brilliant series with the same love, care and attention to detail that he gave to "Upstairs Downstairs". Gemma Jones gives an unforgettable performance as Louisa Trotter who completely dominates the staff and customers at the Bentinck and endeavours to hide her true feelings for ex-lover Charlie Tyrrell (Christopher Cazenove). A real treat for lovers of period drama of quality.
Let's face it - Pierce Brosnan as James Bond oozes cool. I feel that this Bond movie is quite modern with it's use of technology and gadgetry. Certainly in the case of the BMW, which has more high-tech gadgets than you can shake a stick at! I particularly love that it can be controlled by his cell phone... uber cool.
The overall feel to the movie is of a more action-packed, "lets get the job done" nature. In terms of romance, there is of course Wai Lin but she takes some winning over, therefore Bond isn't seen romancing the ladies throughout as such.
I think that the combination of James Bond and Wai Lin adds a lot of humour to the movie, they had great chemistry and she isn't won over by Mr Bond's charm immediately (or at least, she doesn't show it).
I think the film is fast-paced, the pre-title sequence kicks this off and it just doesn't slow down!! In my opinion, the pre-title sequence is a great way to start the movie, it definately marks the fact that Bond is back.
As for the villains - Elliot Carver is evil in a very real kind of way. He is believable as a villian and isn't too over-the-top which makes him more realistic... making him a more fearful villain. He seems quite smart as well with the team of men he has supporting him. He has everything under control in trying to take over the World. As for Stamper the henchman he holds a truly nasty quality, he is a serious killing machine.
Paris Carver adds a nice backstory to the whole film which helps to motivate Bond furthur. Both "Q" and "M" have smaller roles in the film, Q as always gets great laughs from the audience with his dry sense of humour and straight-talking, M gets some great lines as usual.
Overall, Pierce Brosnan shows that he can pull off Bond and he's here to stay for a good few films, he really grows into the role in this film. Recommended for any Bond fans out there, especially this DVD - it is the ULTIMATE edition after all! What more could you want?
The first movie seeing Pierce Brosnan as Bond. This is an action-packed entry into the franchise. I find that it is one of the most breath-taking opening sequences to date as we see James Bond bungee-jump off a dam - the music stops and the audience are left on the edge of their seats.
I think that Pierce Brosnan is brilliant as Bond, he's sharp, he handles situations correctly and delivers the one-liners perfectly with added irony.
Some other contributions that I feel need to be mentioned are from Sean Bean as the 006 agent Alec Trevelyan, this adds an interesting quality to the film as the chemistry changes from beginning to end between Bond and himself. At first they seem to be united and working together but we see Alec's more ruthless side during the middle segment of the film and this in turn shows us Bond's darker side:
Natalya Simonova is an interesting Bond girl because she seems less glamourous and has her "thinking-head" on at all times, she works with Bond to help in a lot of the situations - she is very driven to get what she wants. I personally think that she is one of my favourite Bond girls because I liked seeing someone who got involved with the action and was smart enough to accompany Bond all the way.
Xenia Onatopp was an evil henchwoman and she was equally as fiesty as the Bond girl, she was quite brutal with Bond and anyone associated and she had a passion for what she was doing. I also enjoyed the presence of Boris Grishenko he helps to make the parts of the movie more humourous.
Boris: "I am invincible!"
This is the first time we see Judi Dench as M and even though we don't see her a lot throughout the movie, I think she helps to bring the situation back to reality as she is portrayed as being a serious character.
Overall, I think this is a great first entry by Pierce Brosnan into the Bond franchise. The film keeps moving at a fast-pace, with Brosnan bringing his quick wit and natural charm - quite a change from the more serious tones of Dalton. A lot of memorable moments combined with stunning visual effects and impressive stunts.
An unbelievable price for a must-have Bond movie!
Probably the most inventive children's TV show, ever. Eerie Indiana is a great show that I enjoyed watching when I was younger, and I'm happy to say that this cult show holds up very up.
It never talked down to it's audience, and wasn't afraid to go anywhere -- it had a winning formula of memorable, intriguing storylines and some very cool characters.
Eerie Indiana really was Twin Peaks for kids, it puts the TV that children watch today to shame.
If you haven't seen it before, then it's worth checking out, but to fully appreciate it, you need to have watched it when you where a child as the whole show is from the point of view of two normal kids in weird circumstances. You sure will be taken on a fun journey with this DVD set!
So, in the words of Hansel... What's the dealio, yo? I enjoyed this movie a lot, I just felt like some laugh-out-loud comedy and this movie didn't fail to deliver on that one. How could you go wrong? With a combination of Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and many more!
It's a fun flick and will definately have you laughing throughout, once again Stiller and Wilson are on particularly top form. There are SO many quotable moments from the film as well. This is just one of my faves...
Derek Zoolander: "Well I guess it all started the first time I went through the second grade. I caught my reflection in a spoon while I was eating my cereal, and I remember thinking "wow, you're ridiculously good looking, maybe you could do that for a career.""
Matilda: "Do what for a career?"
Derek Zoolander: "Be professionally good looking."
And at such a reasonable price who could resist this DVD, you won't be disappointed!
