I thought that Waking the Dead was one of the best detective series that came onto TV. Its the blend of comedy and gripping story lines that make each episode unique and compelling viewing.
Kim Ki Duk is a very popular Korean director with some different genres of movie under his belt since he started about 7 years ago, a couple of horror-ish movies included. This one is 180 degrees away from that. Ostensibly, it is the story of a monastery and the cycle of birth, aging, death, and rebirth, but really it is about learning. It is filmed in a beautiful location on a floating monastery in the middle of a lake surrounded by gorgeous mountains. The old master of the monastery attempts to train his young ward to take over for him when he is gone, but things change and what the audience expects is not what occurs at all. The old monk does not fret however because part of his philoposhy is to live in the present so there are no plans to ruin. Many mistakes and repentances later we see the young ward grown and matured to become the old master and the cycle begins anew. The symbolism in this movie is pretty blatant, but it works very well. None of his characters are named, creating a sense of universality, and an unusual tool not unlike the one he used in his most recent film 3 Iron where the lead characters never speak until the last part of the film where one of them speaks a single line. Kim Ki Duk is an artist, and not one appreciated by all, but I like him. If you are in the mood for something that just might move you, check this out. The Tartan Video edition of this film is the one to have in the English speaking world, it features the international cut of the film, along with behind the scenes footage and extras all subtitled in English, it is interesting to watch the artists at work. The only downside is that in Korea the film was shown with an additional 3 minutes at the end which was not shown anywhere else in the world, I have seen that Korean cut, and the final 3 minutes does emphasize the theme of the film, but there are no earth shattering revelations. I highly recommend this release for those in the mood for something mellow but powerful.
Before Psycho or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Before Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer and all the recent crop of serial killer direct-to-video stuff, there was M. In 1931 Fritz Lang made M, a movie loosely based on Peter Kurten, the Vampire Of Dusseldorf. Hans Beckert (Peter Lorre) is a child killer on the loose in Germany who has baffled the police. In a public image move, the criminal underground has decided find him and get rid of him because he is making it harder for them to work with all the new police pressure. There are some really cool shots that go back and forth between the criminal element planning their hunt, and the police planning theirs. Eventually, the criminal underground catches him, by placing the titular "M" on his shoulder, marking him as the murderer, after which he is placed on "trial" and convicted. This is a genius piece of art and a pioneering talkie, AND the first talkie for Peter Lorre. Well worth a viewing, I was lucky enough to see this at a revival screening shortly after a remastering was done in 1997 that restored a few seconds of footage at the end of the film. Find it and watch it, they don't make them like this anymore... Peter Lorre proves his mettle as an actor in M, pouring forth pathos that had rarely been seen, especially in this early part of the era of the sound picture. His performance holds up still today as one of the great performances of all time. Det. Lohmann (Otto Wernicke) also puts forth a stellar effort in a role he would reprise later for Fritz Lang in The Testament Of Dr. Mabuse, another masterpiece. The edition to have of this fine film is the most recent Criterion Collection version, however this version is no slouch and for those who are unable or unwilling to purchase from the States, I would waste no time in picking this one up.
This is one of the most bizarre, wait... scratch that, THE most bizarre children's film I've ever seen. It is a Korean stop-motion animation short, about 30 minutes, about a piece of Doggy Poo looking for the meaning of life. You witness the dog leaving our hero behind, and all of his meetings with various other things during the course of what seems like several months. I'm not quite sure how the poo lasts this long, but hey, suspension of disbelief. He meets a piece of soil that fell off a truck, who talks about how much better he is because great crops grow from him. He meets a leaf, who blows away. He meets a family of ducks whose mother won't let them eat the poo so he cannot even be a good meal. Eventually he meets a dandelion sprout and finds his meaning in life, he can help the sprout to grow. Anyway, its very touching, for a movie about dog crap. Check it out.
Okay, this movie was filmed before I was born, and it STILL brought on a crush for PJ Soles like you wouldn't believe! She still even looks good, I saw her in some Halloween reunion thing! Anyway, this is every kids fantasy, the Ramones take over your school and blow it up. It doesn't get more awesome than that. The film is punctuated by some cool "performances", actually a bunch of lip synching, but still very amusing, for example Joey Ramone seranading Riff Randell in her bedroom with "I Want You Around," the best part is when she goes to take a shower and who is waiting, drenched and bass in hand, but Dee Dee! Amazing. Then there is the band playing "I Just Wanna Have Something To Do" riding up to the theater, with the boys strumming their guitar and bass and Marky looking like a complete doof playing his leg with drum sticks. The other that is great is at the end when the band takes over the school and play while moving down the hallway with Marky being pulled on some kind of cart. The real gem, though, is the performance footage from the Roxy of the real concert. You don't feel power like that at a show anymore. Anyway, there is some of the wortst acting ever in this movie, including poor Dee Dee and Joey back stage mumbling with pizza and wheat germ stuffed in their mouths respectively. Rock N Roll High School could have been a disaster, the orignal title was Disco High, then someone found the Ramones. The film is an atypical parody set in a typical high school. Every frame of film is played for laughs, and every character nails their performance, from Clint Howard in an early role as the High School Svengali, to PJ Soles as the teeny bopper who NEVER is without her headphones and her Ramones music. The film remains one of my very favorites to this day and a great PG rock n roll comedy for the whole family!
American Me is an American story. It is the often told story of an American entrepreneur who uses any means necessary to reach the top of his profession, and his inability to see the chaos he creates later destroys him and brings him down. Usually it is in reference to Italian gangsters, mafiosos who've imigrated to the United States, sometimes it is even the story of legitimate business who create vast empires and build walls so high around themselves that they can no longer see out into the real world. In this case the empire is one of crime, the world of drug peddling and murder is the world these characters have been brought up in. Santana (Edward James Olmos) begins his life of crime as a youth in the street gangs of East LA, he eventually finds himself in juvenile detention, and after he murders a fellow inmate who raped him, he finds himself on a dizzying climb to the top of the drug underworld in the California penal system. Santana has a partner in crime named J.D. who is a white kid who grew up with the latino street gangs speaks and acts like one of them. The story is epic and features a lot of real life places, like the prisons, and real life temptations, as any Latino in any big city in America can tell you, these gangs are often seen as viable alternatives in a country where the majority sees them as criminals before they even exit the womb. This is Edward James Olmos' Citizen Kane, he starred in and directed American Me, and his passion for the material is evident throughout. Ultimately it is a tragic story, for every ounce of success Santana attains through violence and intimidation, pain and suffering is his repayment. To call it a cautionary tale would be putting it lightly, it is not quite the "Scared Straight" style shocker but it does put a damper on the "glamour" of the gangster lifestyle. American Me is a must see for anyone who is interested in the Latino experience in America. Be aware, however, that this film is as indicative of Latinos as The Godfather is of Italians, that is to say, it only represents a small percentage of the real population, but it is compelling viewing none the less, and a classic of Latino American cinema.

I first read the original novel of Perfume in 1993, and while I was eager to see a film adaptation, I was unsure if it would be possible to do it justice. I was not disappointed by this film, it captured the spirit and the feel of the book perfectly, exactly as I imagined it when reading it all those years ago. Thoroughly engrossing, it was like being in France all those years ago, witnessing the events first hand.
I often hear comments that film adaptations aren't as good as the book: this one definitely bucks that trend. Fantastic!
An absolute classic from the legend that is Bill Bailey. Particular stand-out moments include 'The Scale Of Evil' and the 'Love Song'. Overall, a very well constructed show that will have you crying with laughter.
Helium light, supermarket-set comedy; which sees down-on-his-luck slacker / box boy Zack (Dane Cook) competing against minor-celeb cashier/ smarmy company man Vince (Dax Shepard) for the affections of new girl Amy (Jessica Simpson). 'Employee Of The Month' is an undemanding, enjoyable watch with a couple of good gags and a steady joke rate which, commendably, doesn't rely on gross-out humour for cheap laughs. Stand up comedian Dane Cook makes for an amiable, convincing lead whilst the rapport between him and his buddies: Brian George, Harland Williams and an hilarious, Woody Allen-esque Andy Dick, though at odds with the movie's broad comedic style and caricaturised dramatis personae, adds an unexpected dash of believability to the otherwise OTT scenarios. Rising star Dax Shepard, last seen in Mike Judge's excellent 'Idiocracy' and classic 'My Name Is Earl' episode: 'Faked His Own Death', plays his company man for all its worth; striking an amusing, Basil Fawlty-Manuel-esque relationship with sycophant henchman Jorge (Efen Ramirez from 'Crank'). Jessica Simpson doesn't have a great deal to do, though the writer's give her a memorable sight gag which is straight from the Farrelly brothers school of weird, whilst Mamet fans will no doubt appreciate the store's sibling owners named Glen Garry and Glen Ross.
'Employee Of The Month' looks as if it began life as a serious minded satire before thinking it could serve two masters and incorporate low brow slapstick into the proceedings. Ultimately, and to its detriment; the film opts out for the latter, employing clichés and physical humour in a third act that drags and splutters its way to the finish line. The supermarket setting allows director Greg Coolidge ample opportunity to highlight the petty, and often cringe-worthy maze of corporate bureaucracy and employee apartheid; from the legendary cashier's lounge to the wonderful box clubhouse, hidden away amongst the heavy crates and only accessible by forklift truck; an ingenious, slacker-safe-haven in the matrix of the class war between proletariat & bourgeoisie. And whilst it's certainly no 'Office Space', 'Employee Of The Month' is an entertaining, and occasionally hilarious film, which just manages to rise above its one-note-gag contemporaries, in the saturated comedy genre. Check it out.
Your mission should you choose to accept it is to hang on for 6 hours of high octane action!
Each time a Mission Impossible film arrives on the scene, the tone is always different, which is always refreshing to see in a movie franchise that resists the trap of falling into 'same content, different title' category!
Considering the first Mission Impossible film was released 11 years ago, its strange to think that there have been only 2 additions to the franchise since (another well known spy has had 4 in that time and considering that there was a 4 year wait for the latest one!)
Tom Cruise plays the ultra cool spy Ethan Hunt and manages to find an opportunity to put a different spin on the character with each film, the 1st one shows a slightly cocky, but understated Hunt, the 2nd showing the 'superhero' type Hunt who hangs off sheer cliff faces for fun! and the 3rd where he's in love and seeming almost afraid of getting in the field for fear of getting killed -of course he still kicks sizeable butt and finds 5 mins to tandem swing between 2 high rise buildings in the process!
I have no particular favourite as each one is a different kind of spy film, just revolving around the same person, which brings something different to the table.
So if you're in the mood for sitting back and watching the best that Hollywood action blockbusters have to offer, you can rarely find nowhere better than kicking back and following the antics of one Ethan Hunt....this review will self-destruct in 5 seconds...
This show is fab and is very different than I expected. As soon as I started watching it I got into it and wanted to watch more and more.
I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Cartman, Kenny, Stan and Kyle are a group of foul mouthed 8 year olds who dreamt up by Matt Stone and Trey Parker have captured the world of comedy since 1997. In each television episode the gang, natives of South Park Colorado always get themselves drawn into some wacky and explicit situation. When the world was informed that the beloved show was going to be transferred to the big screen fans were uneasy. It had enjoyed a great first 2 years on T.V, but a dud movie could end the show and characters for good. However no panic was necessary as South Park bigger longer and uncut was not just one of the best comedies of the 1990"s but maybe one of the best of all time.
The warped adventure starts when the gang see, that comedians Terrence and Phillip have a new movie out, named Asses of Fire. They go and see the film only to find out it"s, grossly offensive and filled to the brim with bad language.
Naturally the gang, love the film and it becomes a super hit in South Park much to the dismay of the town"s parents and teachers. They ban the movie and seeing as the comedians are Canadian, they are taken as prisoners of war as Ases of fires controversy has caused a war between the two nations to erupt. It"s up to the boys to save Terrence and Phillip, and with the devil planning the apocalypse as the aftermath of the Canadian killings on American soil, they"re going to have to save the world to.
For this movie, which actually with such a variety of songs plays out more like a musical it"s important to warn the masses it"s pretty darn offensive. Me personally, I loved every minute of this foul mouthed farce but for others who can"t tolerate bad language, strong innuendos and jokes quite possibly targeted at their ethnic origins it"s one to miss, and these folk might as well stop reading this review now.
The movie is certainly written just as well as the best of the T.V material, and with the added run time Stone and Parker increase their scope for satire. For the most part the film"s story is wonderfully warped only grinding in one or two areas.
The creators have also introduced several hysterical songs into the mix, song by the main protagonists or the supporting characters, they"re pure genius no matter who sings the brilliant lyrics for the most part, and are 100% guaranteed to make even the biggest grouch laugh.
For all the profanity"s present of which according to the Guinness book of records there are a massive 399, each and every one is needed to keep the movie working. It"s almost as if 398 would have been to few but 400 to much but such is Stone"s and Parker"s comic talent that they were able to pinpoint perfect 399.
That"s were the movie excels, the directors knowledge and instinct of when enough is enough and their ability to achieve perfection for so many aspects of the picture, that is for one noticeable exception.
The subplot concerning the devil and saddam Hussein as gay lovers is rarely funny and takes up a fair portion of the screen time. It"s confusing as to why Parker and Stone felt the whole devil and hell thing was worth slotting into the screenplay at all as the film works just fine with it"s message about censorship in the movie world. This part of the feature is also overly crude and crass at times, and coming from me who can tolerate plenty, that"s something.
However leaving that issue aside this probably still remains the gem in the crown of, it"s creators very respectable careers and rightly so, it"s an excellent movie.
As for people worried that the simple animation that has become the T.V show"s trademark. Will not entertain them for 80 minutes they are sorely mistaken. The crude drawings and backdrops all but add to the movie"s already considerable charm and energy. In the end that"s the word that best describes this particular picture, energy. It"s filled with it and rarely lets up which is exactly why it succeeds so spectacularly.
There"s no doubt that Snakes on a plane is the movie in 2006 received the most global coverage, ranging all the way from national newspapers and film journals to fan made internet blogs and mini movies. The whole world has gone Snakes on a plane crazy in the last 12 months but now the moment of truth is upon us, does Snakes on a plane warrant the support it has gained?
The answer is a resounding yes, Snakes on a plane joins the list of films that hasn"t disappointed this summer season of which there are admittedly few. The film has captured all the B movie charm the title promises, and has some truly cheesy moments, but Director David Ellis has also managed to inject some rather subtle scares and moments of genuine tension into his film.
The Story is a rather simple but effective one, Shaun an average Joe who likes to surf has witnessed a murder committed by one of the world"s most renowned crime lords, but hasn"t the guts to confess to what he"s seen. The mobster however sends his cronies after Shaun and before long he"s in deep shit that is before Samuel L Jackson playing bad ass agent Neville Flynn comes to his rescue. Flynn convinces Shaun to testify in L.A so that the crime lord can be put behind bars once and for all, but that"s not what the criminal has in mind. On the flight to L.A he manages to smuggle hundreds of pumped up and deadly snakes onto the flight and after take of they"re all unleashed.
Snakes on a plane, has to get two thumbs up for originality and heart no matter what your opinion on the other aspects of the movie are. Ellis and his crew constantly keep the energy flowing and even in the early talky scenes things never get to dull. The cast bar Mr. Jackson (who is on splendid form by the way) are mostly unknown and that"s a bit of a detractor in the end. Several of them have snake fodder written all over them and for 90% of the time you wouldn"t be wrong to agree with that assumption. However there is one positive to be garnered from the actors roles, several of them play such annoying and stereotyped characters that there"s more fun in seeing them being munched by the serpents than trying to escape them. The deaths are all fairly creative and several of them are played more for laughs than screams, but when this movie wants jumps and hollers it gets them, make no mistake about it. There"s no doubt that the best parts are onboard the plane, and the film grinds a bit when it cuts to the subplot down below. It"s a necessary little story to keep the narrative flowing but while it"s unfolding you can"t help but wish they"d hurry up so we can get back to the giggles and scares onboard the flight.
The snake effects are well rendered, it"s easy to tell when a snake is real or computer generated but that shouldn"t really annoy anyone seeing as the set pieces the critters are put in are fairly realistic and more importantly entertaining. The film may well be the most enjoyable blockbuster 2006 has yet offered, far superior to some of the seasons biggest cash grabbers like The Da Vinci Code, X-men the last stand and Pirates of the Caribbean dead man"s chest. However due to having a far higher gore, language and general amount of adult content it"s unlikely to make as big a dent in the box- office, as those inferior family favorites.
Those who led the Snakes on a plane phenomenon aren"t likely to be disappointed. It"s filled with what they"d hoped for that is Samuel L Jackson swearing, Snakes on a plane and some extra gore and nudity for good measure. I can"t say I disapprove with any of that having had a whale of a time watching it. In the end it all comes down to just how damned fun the picture is, and that is to be sure a damned lot. It doesn"t take itself seriously in the slightest and benefits so much for it. There are several bigger budget blockbusters like the ones listed above that could learn a lot from this B movie extraordinaire. Listening Ron Howard?
2006"s festive cinema season has been a bit of a dog. Rife with disappointment"s, and just plain stinkers it"s an awful way for a pretty good year in film to end, but none the less it has. Night at the museum released on boxing day looked like it could offer some salvation however. Packed with some of the funniest people, well ever and a huge budget there was no way it was going to be awful. In the end it"s not bad but far from great. When you combine the likes of Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, Dick Van Dyke, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Micky Rooney you expect brilliance, whilst here we just get quite good.
Stiller plays Larry a down on his luck guy, who just can"t hold down a job. His young Son is losing faith in him and growing ever more attached to his likeable Step Dad played by Paul Rudd. So in a last ditch effort for employment he takes the available night guard post at the museum. The three old watchmen who he is replacing, are a bizarre bunch but let him in on all the secrets and tactics to ensure the job goes well, including the fact all the exhibits in the building come to life at night!!!!
The premise is good, the cast are good, the effects are good but sadly director Levy isn"t. His C.V includes abominations like Just Married and Cheaper by the Dozen along with Steve Martin"s recent and very disappointing The Pink Panther. He shows some improvement here and his handling of the physical comedy and effects are adequate, but when it comes to talky or sentimental scenes he makes them so syrupy and dull that the viewer becomes dispirited when the action shifts from the museum to the outside world.
It"s useful then that he has perhaps the funniest and most likeable cast of the year at his disposal and that certainly counts for a lot in this movie. Stiller has plenty of energy in the leading role and despite a fairly small part Ricky Gervais still manages to be 100% hilarious. Dick Van Dyke, Bill Cobbs and Micky Rooney are clearly having a great time as the old watchmen and present several great jokes along the way. Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan however are by far the best offering. They play little models in the museum, a cowboy and a Roman respectively. These two and their fellow miniature"s are constantly at war, and annoying each other. It"s the fact Coogan and Wilson just spark of each other so well that make their characters the best and in particular Wilson, who gets slightly more screen time than his counter part. There are weaknesses in the chain though. Robin Williams does a very sentimental and saccharine turn as a Teddy Roosevelt Mannequin and Carla Gugino is far from convincing as Stiller"s love interest of sorts.
The effects in the movie are rather excellent and numerous. The best of them has to be the T-Rex skeleton which runs rampant through the museums hallways, just wanting to play fetch. There"s also some very convincing safari creatures and a wonderfully rendered and very troublesome monkey, named Dexter. The film might have fared better had the studio been willing to increase it"s MPAA or BBFC rating. Maybe then some of the more natural comedians particularly Gervais and Coogan might have been able to develop the comedy further, because as it stands it"s very well.......PG. There"s also a slightly sickening family friendly ending which comes of as plain preachy and annoying in all honesty.
In Conclusion this is enjoyable and diverting enough, with some rather spectacular effects. It"s also possibly the best family film the Christmas season of 2006 has seen, but that probably says more about Christmas 2006"s cinematic efforts than anything else.
Nobody does it better!
Casino Royale took over 40 years to arrive on the official Bond film wagon, after 007's creator Ian Fleming sold the film rights to Sony pictures, who are now the studio releasing all Bonds from now on with MGM. The producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Brocoli always wanted to do a 'proper' version after the successful but ultimately failed attempts in the past, and after a 4 year law suit, they finally atained the rights to make the film of the book that, arguably is the best Bond book showcasing James Bond as a fully rounded human being. Thus the current incarnation Pierce Brosnan was ruled out as we travel back to Bond at the start of his career in the 00 section.
It took another 2 years of searching to find an actor who could not only tackle the tougher, 'professional killer' side of Bond, but who could also show the emotion and genuine anguish of being a murderer shown in Fleming's novels. Hence we arrive with Daniel Craig, who was almost instantly ridiculed for being blonde, too short, ugly..the list goes on! (most of these critics are now eating a big slab of humble pie!)
So on November 16th 2006, the 21st James Bond film was unleashed to the public and the reaction - the best Bond film ever made starring the best Bond since Sean Connery! the film is not just classic Bond, its better Bond. The pre-title sequence catapults the viewer into a more realistic film with far more brutal fights than any Bond film done before. The trademark witty one-liners are handled with style with no hint of cheese at all! By the time the film ends, the adreneline is sky high and you just sit back and think WOW! All I wanted to do was book another showing and see it again! Of course being a Bond fan I am biased, but there was something wrong with the most recent Bonds after the excellent Goldeneye that I couldn't put my finger on but I have never gone out of a cinema with such a big grin on my face as when I walked out at 4:30 that Thursday afternoon!
Daniel Craig has done more with Bond in one film than the others managed in their entire careers being the world's most famous secret agent. He looks like the Bond from the books, has the rough edges from the books, and above all - he can act!
All in all the franchise is safe for another 10 years as long as the Bond team keep up the exceptional work, and Casino Royale now stands as my favourite James Bond film, not just because its a Bond film, but a geniunely great action adventure film of the 21st century.
In recent years we have been subjected to some very poor horror remakes
Including 2005's anemic remake of the Amityville horror and this year's poorly crafted The Hills Have Eyes. Now also consider Gus Van Sant's uninteresting interpretation of Psycho and the totally abysmal Texas Chainsaw Massacre rehash, and you could be forgiven for thinking this year"s remake of The Omen is one to miss. Helmed by John Moore, the man responsible for the excellent Owen Wilson war film Behind Enemy Lines and last years forgettable The Flight of the Phoenix remake, The Omen, surprisingly is given no new twists or turns and stays very faithful to the original.
This no doubt will be viewed by some as a weakness, and the film then considered a pointless exercise, but for me and hopefully many more this actually made the film a more interesting experience. It used the same classic story and instead of the 70's, it places itself in modern times and explores many new perspectives on religion and even at times touches on politics too.
The story as mentioned above is nearly a turn for turn a carbon copy of the original. Liev Schreiber plays an ambassador who leaves to go to London with his Wife and son Damien. However after a series of terrible events, including a gruesome death at Damien"s 5th birthday and some peculiar photos it becomes clear that Damien is no normal child and could be the Devil incarnate.
The cast is certainly a lot stronger than most horror films can boast and it does become apparent when characters interact. Instead of getting cardboard conversations and paper thin personality's here we
get offered that bit more, and it really does improve the quality of the film. Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles both play well as Damien"s parents, and in scenes of peril, particularly Stiles they both come up trumps in conveying their terror. Support is really good in the movie with David Thewlis, Mia Farrow and Pete Postletwaite all delivering
spooky and hammy turns in abundance, and in fact rivaling the original films cast, particularly Farrow who is great value in the form of Mrs.Baylock, Damien"s Nanny. As for Damien himself little Seamus Davey Fitzpatrick is clearly not a brilliant actor but his eyes and stare are so malevolent you get a chill whenever he appears, and that is all that"s required for this particular role Moore has injected plenty of menace and boo moments into the film, so as to keep the audience alert and entertained. There are some genuinely scary set pieces and all the deaths are fun and gruesome in equal measure. Fun is an important word, and a film like this needs to have plenty of it, and that"s maybe why it succeeds like it does. The end suggests that Moore and co definitely gave the politics of today a thought as the Presidents head, are rather the back of his head looks a lot like
George Bush. The beginning of the film is my only criticism. I understand why it is there, the sequence at the Vatican involving all the disasters to try and add something new, but this is well enough made to stand on its own two feet and thus doesn't need the ill judged 9/11 opening as an excuse for its existence.
My final verdict is The Omen is a well made film and well worth seeing for a new look at religion are politics. Or if you want plenty of fun and a guys head getting chopped of, it works well to.
Jurassic Park really is one of those films that DVD was made for. With its awesome set pieces, breath taking effects and beautiful locations its hard to think of another movie better suited to take advantage of DVD's picture and sound ability's. The question reamins though, have Universal produced a good disc?
The answer thankfully is a resounding yes, the DVD looks great and presents the movie with wonderful audio and picture quality. The Film itself has stood the test of time well, granted its not even 15 years old yet but still visual effects have come on leaps and bounds in the last decade, and seeing as Jurassic Park was one of the first movies to usher in the effects laden era its Dinosaurs still look breathtaking on the screen.
The Story was always a strong one, and director Steven Spielberg assemles a good cast including Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern to potray the human characters. The real stars of the show are still and forever will be the Dinosaurs. Right from their first appearence they render the humans pointless, such is the impact they have. I dare you to watch the T-rex attack sequence and not be amazed. Jurassic Park remains one of the 90's finest films and in its own right a modern classic.
The DVD comes with a nice selection of Special features to. You get the normal trailers, production notes and cast bios but also several interesting featurettes about the films production and piles of Special effects info. Theres also a Dino encyclopedia and a piece on Location Scouting rounds of a very decent package, for an outstanding film.
