In the second part rambo is put on a mission to track down american MIAs with nothing but a knife and a bow and arrows. • The Godfather: Part II [1974]
    Chris Hawthorne 18 Apr 2006

Some people believe this part is better than the great first one. The main actors and actresses in this production are Al Pacino( Michael Corleone)and Diane Keaton( Kay Corleone). In the film there is no more Vito Corleone as Godfather it is the turn of his youngest son Michael. In the film Michael is about the place heading murders and doing business in places like Miami, New York and in there new home in Nevada. Also during the film it will go through the life of the previous Don Vito Corleone as he grew up as a boy, starting a family and finally heading the most powerful Mafia family. Great film all over but also watch the first godfather to know the story.

  • Alien vs Predator: Extreme Edition (Two Discs) [2004]
    Kashif Ahmed 17 Apr 2006

Extreme Edition...extremely dull that is, yep, Paul W.S. Anderson has managed to do the impossible; making both the Alien and Predator seem boring. Now I"m not one of the Paul Anderson haters, I quite enjoyed "Shopping" for a laugh; the sight of RADA"s Sean Pertwee (trained in the classics and iambic meter), use terms like "boyakasha" and "rasclat bumbaclat" without the slightest hint of irony, was worth the price alone. Absolutely LOVED "Mortal Kombat" for it was everything a computer game adaptation ought to be, dug the hell out of "Event Horizon", didn"t make it through "Soldier" and just about tolerated his patchy, scare-free horror; "Resident: Evil". But here, Anderson"s all out of excuses: for even the biggest hack in the industry could"ve got something out of such a promising concept. There"s about 10-15 minutes worth of entertaining footage here, the odd smirk inducing one liner and some rare moments of genuine excitement. Sanaa Lathan gives a gutsy performance as one of the guides on an Antarctic expedition, Lance Henrikson crops up in the film"s only clever bit of casting whilst the movie"s real stars look surprisingly worse-for-wear; the Predators are fat and the Aliens slow. Pointless movie, best avoided.

  • Friends - Series 1 - Episodes 1-8 [1995]
    Chris Hawthorne 17 Apr 2006

These first eight episodes are very funny as the gang introduce Rachel to the real world without her dads credit cards. Monica's gran dies twice, phoebe gets $7000 dollars that isn't hers, Joey gets a film role as Al Pacino's butt, Chandler gets stuck in a cashpoint vestibule with a model and Ross's lesbian wife and her lover are having his baby. The main actors and actresses are Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. The producers of Friends are Kevin S Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. I would recommend this to you and more Friends in the future.

  • Rambo: First Blood [1982]
    Kashif Ahmed 17 Apr 2006

The story of disillusioned Vietnam vet John Rambo, retuning home an embittered, shattered man only to have to contend with the very brand of obtuse, red-neck degeneracy that probably supported the invasion to begin with;"First Blood" stands head and shoulders above its sequels and is a master class in outsider cinema. I often wonder how Steve McQueen (the original choice to play Rambo) would"ve fared; I know McQueen was drawn to the story as told in David Morell"s hard-hitting novel, and I think he would"ve bought a laconic cool to the character, albeit in a 1970s kind of way. The mind games and desperate, survivalist duel between Rambo and the cops (led by an on form Brian Dennehy) is mesmerising, with the ex-Green Beret taking on the mantle of his former adversaries (i.e. the Viet Cong) with the powers that be representing imperialism (i.e. America).
They don't make em' like this anymore: hard as nails action with a message. A must own.

  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe [1 Disc]
    Cathy Holding 16 Apr 2006

Well, what can I say, I awaited Disney's release of this film on dvd with baited breath after rave reviews from my family including my 8 year old niece only to be.......... 'SADLY DISSAPOINTED' :-(
I remember reading all the narnia chronicles as a child and being totally enthralled. I imagined with the technology available today that Disney could really bring the story to life, after all i've seen the magic of Harry Potter brought to life and The Lord of the Rings trilogy enthralling my jaded palette.
So what was it I didn't like about The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe? First and foremost the most annoying thing about it was the fact that the whole way through the film a narrator tells the story as the actors and actresses go through the motions, for example:
Narrator: Lucy walks into the bedroom and sees in front of her a large wardrobe
Lucy: As the narrator says this she literally walks into the bedroom and stands agog looking at the wardbrobe
I found this increasingly irritating and annoying if I wanted an audio of the story i'd of bought a cd. My son didn't think that the narrator was in the film when he watched it at the cinema but I would imagine that it was.
The magical talking animals and fabled creatures were all very good but then I expected them to be! Over all I was so totally disappointed with the film that I didn't even bother to watch it to the conclusion...Overall rating...A VERY BIG LET DOWN!

  • Miami Vice - Series 1
    Chris Hawthorne 16 Apr 2006

Great series for all the cop show lovers. The main stars are two cops Sonny Crocket( Don Johnson) and the other Ricardo Tubbs( Philip Michael Thomas). The storyline is about Sonny and Ricardo and the rest of the miami vice team fighting crime against drug barons in miami and other South American islands. This was great but the new one comes out this summer but buy this first.

  • The Godfather Trilogy
    Chris Hawthorne 16 Apr 2006

This drama series is about a powerful New York family trying to be the biggest family in New York. To do that they have to battle with the 5 rival families. The second part has a new godfather (Al Pacino) and travels back in time when the first godfather was growing up and starting a family. But in the third part the godfather is still there but he is mostly finish fighting with other families and is making peace. The best actors through the trilogy are Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Also great special features on the fifth disc. I recommend this dvd to you.

This is a great film for all viewers with the main actors Harrison Ford (Dr Richard Kimble aka The Fugitive)The other is a police chief(Tommy Lee Jones). The plot is about a doctor who is convicted of killing his wife, he is sentenced to death with the lethal injection. He is put on a transfer bus on the way one prisoner stabs a guard and the other guard lets kimble out of the chains to help the wounded guard. The bus crashes and every one jumps out so richard carries the wounded guard out of the bus. • The Shawshank Redemption
    Chris Hawthorne 14 Apr 2006

I rate this film 4 out of 4 as it is the best film I have seen. The film has some great acting from Tim Robbins( Andy Dufresne) a city banker convicted of two brutal murders and was given a double life sentence. He was sent to a maximum security prison where he formed a unlikely friendship with the prison fixer Red(Morgan Freeman). Andy becomes popular with the guards and the warden himself using his city banker skills. And in the end crawls through 500 yards of foul smelling sewage to set him free of shawshank prison.

  • Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Season 2 [1997]
    michael pagan 12 Apr 2006

In this series we are introduced to new and exciting characters such as Spike(James marsters)and Oz(Seth green),and as usual see buffy(Sarah michelle gellar)at her sexy vampire slaying best,so in my opinion season 2 is the best in the buffy collection.

  • Braindead [1993]
    tracey harvey 12 Apr 2006

what a film!! Being a huge horror fanatic i thought this film was brilliant! equally as good as 'bad taste' also by Peter Jackson...lord knows how this guy went on to make films like Lord Of The Rings!
If you cant watch people eating pus from their own arm then this film is defiantly not for you...on the other hand it does include a dead priest that looks like Father Ted, bonking a dead nurse over the dining table!
and you just have to laugh at some of the special effects..this film is worth watching just for that!

  • The Princess Bride [1987]
    Andrew Spinner 11 Apr 2006

A wonderful off-beat comedy. Fairytales might not be your thing, yet you may well enjoy this film as clichés of the genre are gently exposed, while not condemning them either.
Some excellent scripting is also in evidence - listen out for Vizzini's and Inigo's lines - and Fezzick is a lovable gentle giant. In fact, the supporting roles steal the show here, although the main players hardly do badly. Oh, and Peter Cook makes a cameo appearance as an incredibly boring clergyman...a role he probably rather enjoyed.
Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) wrote the music for this film, and while it's not his most impressive piece of music, it nonetheless contributes to the generally pleasant atmosphere.
Don't expect to be bowled over by incredible special effects, or a fast-moving, gag-a-minute storyline, but The Princess Bride is still definitely worth watching!

  • Bryan Ferry - In Concert - Live At Le Grand Rex [2000]
    Ian Scullion 11 Apr 2006

The quality of the recording is so much better than another gig, on the same tour, shown on satelite tv recently. Those ladies on strings - stunning, the musicians fabulaous, Ferry up to his usual standard. A DVD worth having if you can't get to the gigs
