This is one of Steven Spielberg's early films. The whole film was shot on site, with real vehicles and actors. Spielberg's first attempt at suspense is fascinating. Throughout the film you will be sitting on the edge of your seat.
The huge supercharged truck weighs over 20,000 lb, with horsepower at 300 gross at 2100 RPM. The victim's car has a top speed over only 116 Mph, no match for the lorry.
This truck is more menacing than any flesh eating monsters. With number plates taken from previous victims placed on the front bumper as souvenirs, the truck driver tries to run the driver off the road.
You will never see the face of the psycho throughout the movie, making him even more menacing.
This film is one of the best suspense/horror films i have ever seen. Although it may look slightly dated now, it still leaves you clutching the seat in terror.
Angel is one of the most amazing dvds around. Not only is it a 22 episode series in a fantastic 6 dvd booklet, it has a humoungus number of bonus features as well; my favourite being the deleated scenes. In this series Angel (The vampire champion with a soul) has to come to terms with the issues regarding his son, who is kidnapped and manipulated by the fearsome Hultz, while also dealing with his usuall rutine of saving the world from vampires, deamons and the beasts of the underworld. But the thing is, can he take all of it? Buy this great dvd to find out more, and follow Angels jurney in his road to redemption.
When initially watching The Village (2004) written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan,(director of The Sixth Sense & Unbreakable) one would mistakenly think that they are about to view a horror film. Essentially what this film does is explore the psychology of human nature and also the phenomena of group hysteria.
Staring Joaquin Phoenix and Sigourney Weaver (in a somewhat different role than we are used to seeing her in).
The film is set in what appears to be a turn of the century Amish village, already setting itself apart from the usual horror backdrop, introducing "The ones we do not speak of" or as in horror theory terminology "fear of the other" as the main element of horror.
The village has a boundary that "The ones we do not speak of" have agreed not to cross; likewise the villagers must not cross into their territory. This pact is broken however by one of the villagers and "The ones we do not speak of" then enter the village leading to a chain of events with interesting consequences and transforming the perceived genre entirely.
The film starts off quietly and can be considered slow, but what keeps you watching are the characters constant references to "The ones we do not speak of" building into a tantalising urge to see what "The ones" actually are; human or otherwise.
Clever and original it is also highly indicative of the director M. Night Shyamalan"s fascination with the psychological, (as can be noted in his previous films) not just in the characters and the storyline that is represented on the screen, but also in manipulating the audiences need for information and in playing with our perception. Perception is an underlying theme throughout the piece and is predominantly representative in the character of "Ivy" whose blindness heightens her perception of what is going on in the village.
This film ultimately highlights how conditioned we are as viewers into believing that we are watching a particular genre due to our identification with the sounds, shot composition and cuts usually associated with in this case the horror genre.
This is a marmite film.... you either love it or you hate it! I loved it, the casting was brilliant, although there should have been more of Rik Mayall in it! Don't take this film too seriously and you'll get a barrel of laughs, mainly from Harry Enfield as the King. It does have the potential to be funnier and it should have been in my opinion but it still delivers to amuse and entertain you for an hour and 20 minutes, which is just what a film is meant to do!
"Reformed" gangster Jimmy the Saint (Garcia) is lured from emulating respectability into a kidnap attempt by former boss 'the Man with Plan' (Walken). Assembling a crew of caricature crims, he makes out-of-practice errors of judgement leading to him and his associates being pursued by hit-man 'Mr Shhh' (played adroitly by Steve Buscemi). On the surface this seems like an ambitious film. It ventures into the microcosm of a sleazy gangster food chain, but it is one energised continually by black humour. There is a sense of insular cohesion from the (invented?) parochial Denver hoodlum lexicon. Some distracting bathos is generated by Jimmy's desperate will to preserve his shot at straight success and romance with love interest Dagney (Gabrielle Anwar), but it's the odd dialogue and atypical storyline that makes this movie worth watching or possibly owning. There are some excellent lines, and deft comic touches, that are not laugh-out-loud (if you were alone), but still very entertaining. It's more than 3/4; it is a 3.5 rated offering.
"The old ones are definitely the best". This comment not only applies to comedy in general but also to the works of the Marx Brothers specifically in that most commentators agree that their earlier films out rank their later efforts where silly things like plots and love stories got in the way of the riotous comedy and anarchy.
Such commentators will no doubt be pleased with this collection of four of the five earliest Marx Brother films. Unfortunately, the very first film "The Coconuts" is missing from this collection but since that is the weakest of the first five films, that omission is not too depressing. The later films, which include the seminal, "A Day at the Races" and "A Night at the Opera" are available in another box set.
The films that are included - "Animal Crackers" (1930), "Monkey Business" (1931), "Horse Feathers" (1932) and "Duck Soup" (1933) - are well presented in a novel case, which includes postcards of the original film posters. Trailers are also included for some of the films but that aside there is a depressing lack of extras with all such materials sold separately in another box set! So what about the films themselves?
"Animal Crackers" (1930) contains many great lines, fantastic slapstick and Groucho"s famous "Hooray for Captain Spaulding" routine. The plot for what it is worth figures around a stolen painting and comic misunderstandings. "Animal Crackers" is not quite as tight as it should be and the fact that it is the longest film in this collection is not a benefit. Nevertheless, this classic film is far superior to most modern comedies.
"Monkey Business" (1931) is a strange Marx Brothers film as it opens with all the four Marx Brothers together operating as a team throughout the film. As a result, the laughs come quick and fast as the films dispenses with the need for introductions! The slapstick and silent humour from Harpo Marx in this film is among the best in film history.
"Horse Feathers" (1932) fits the pattern of most Marx Brothers films with the brothers playing unrelated roles. Here there are one-liners galore with Groucho on top form as the President of Huxley College. There are some wonderful scenes of comic farce as the brothers enter and re-enter the bedroom. The ending seems a bit rushed but that aside this is an excellent chance to see the four Marx Brothers in all their comic glory!
"Duck Soup" (1933) is, in my humble opinion, not only the best Marx Brother"s film but is also one of the best films of all time. Everything one expects from a Marx Brothers film is here in bucket loads. The plot is tight and well executed and the physical humour is outstanding, especially the mirror scene, the scene with the ice-cream seller and the hilarious scene where Harpo and Chico meet their boss. The verbal comedy is also priceless - every word Groucho utters is hilarious. Furthermore, this is one of the few films where the songs are an actual advantage! The political satire included is sharp and the general humour is simply unbeatable. This is a film you could watch weekly without tiring of it! It is quite simply superb.
In sum, these four films are not only some of the best Marx Brothers films but they are also some of the best films of all time. Despite the lack of extras, this package presents these four classics in a way that will thrill a new generation of fans. Put simply, your life is not complete if you have not seen "Duck Soup" and your DVD collection is not complete unless you own this seminal box set.
A somewhat belated release for what is arguably the "Cinderella" of "Only Fools and Horses" Specials. Whilst other Christmas specials are constantly repeated on TV and long released on DVD, "A Royal Flush" has been ignored since it was transmitted in 1986.
On transmission and subsequently, this feature-length episode has been criticised as a rare poor blip in the series. The final editing was rushed and even creator John Sullivan has criticised some of the scenes. However, I feel that these criticisms are rather harsh. Other "Only Fools and Horses" specials have been criticised - most notably "Miami Twice" and the last trilogy - but they have not been disowned in the same way this episode has.
Tellingly this new DVD version is not as originally transmitted. This disk only includes the 2004 edit of "A Royal Flush", which has reduced the running time from over 80 minutes to just 58 minutes. Whilst this is disappointing from a fan"s point of view in that it means that the DVD collection is not really "complete", this shortened version does overcome many of the original criticisms of the episode.
What we have left is a great story packed with laughs and emotions. All the trademarks of the other "Only Fools and Horses" episodes are here complete with a story line that comically mocks contemporary class divisions. The story is tight and features a young Rodney falling in love with the Duke of Maylesbury"s daughter and Del Boy consequentially and hilariously preparing for the wedding of the year!
This is not the best "Only Fools and Horses" episode but neither is it the worst. It would have been ideal for the original edit to also be included but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the 2004 version featured. Although I agree with John Sullivan"s criticism that Del Boy is a bit too "nasty" in some scenes and moves away from the Bilko-like rouge we love, overall this DVD offers an hour of vintage "Only Fools and Horses" with the attraction that this is one episode that you will have not seen constantly on UK TV - luvvly jubbly!
This is any Poirot fans dream, the chance to own a 31 disks of Agatha Christie's famous Belgium detective Hercule Poirot. It contains her most popular stories for you to watch over and over again. Not only have we got great whodunits but also great stories with great actors. David Suchet has taken Poirot off the pages of Christie's wonderful books stright unto the screen. A well worth buy.
Whether or not we are tiring of the "swords and sandals" genre, Alexander must be described as the peak of its` performance. Far exceeding predecessor "Troy" in terms of acting prowess AND film-making, it unfortunately exceeds it in length- rendering it over-long and even tiresome in the last 30 minutes.
The implied homosexual relationship between Alexander and Hephaestion is NOT laboured, as the sexual is traded for the romantic- note the breathtaking scene on the balcony in Babylon. Jolie`s performance as Olympias is a perfect depiction of motherly love driven by a desire for Farrell`s Alexander to succeed and be fulfilled. The lead role is perhaps not played as wholeheartedly as one might hope, but a strong supporting cast conceals the truth. In addition to this, the refusal to resort to blatant scenes of action or frivolous sex when "the going gets tough" is admirable. The male camaraderie "Top Gun" style should appeal to the male viewer, while the cast of hardly bad looking fellas if nothing else should keep the ladies hooked. This film could have been far more carefully edited, the script could have been sharper AND Farrell could have been "feeling it" a bit more considering the historical gravity of the tale. However, it seems many C grades can form a watchable film at worst. My only prayer is that the DVD foregoes the torture of too many deleted scenes- the tale is told!
Although its one of those movies that just isn't as good as you remember it to be, it was interesting for its time as a groundbreaker in special effects which sparked off a number of variably entertaining video games (I liked Discs Of Tron myself). The plot is a bit thin to be honest, but the whole thing is entertaining enough to interest teenage nerds and the musical score was a pretty reasonable effort and helps enhance the experience.
A must have for anyone on earth. The ultimate series of Seinfeld. Seeing the introduction of Frank and Estelle Costanza (Georges previously unseen and much talked about parents, the most annoyingly perfect comedy couple of all time. With such legendry episodes and characters like the Bubble boy, a foul mouthed youth trapped in a rubber room divide. With many hilarious occurrences such as the obstruction of handicap parking spaces and a chocolate covered mint that finds its way into a abdominal cavity of a hospital patient in surgery this is the perfect way to spend your evening. Genius at it absolute best!!! If you buy anything this year buy this!

"The Burb's" must be the least well-known film by Tom Hanks, although it has to be my favourite.
Ray Peterson's neighbours the Klopek's are quiet and mysterious, ater living in the cul-de-sac for over a month nobody has seen them enter or leave the house. Apart from Ray's young son who watches the Klopek's digging in their back garden in the dead of night.
Ray's two friends invent several theories that the Klopek's are offering their neighbours as ritual sacrifices. The comedy begins here.
After raiding through their neighbours bins and inviting themselves to the house, Ray and his wife Carol begin to doubt the theories.
Although when Vince, the family's dog, digs up a bone from the Klopek's yard things change dramatically...
A must see, the drama and comedy in this film work together brilliantly. WATCH THIS FILM!!
This season of Charmed is great. It shows the characters and their development from the first series. You see how the relationships between the sisters and their partners grow and they become more aware of their magic. It also shows their love and hate for the wicca craft and how they will do any thing to protect their secret and themselves. It helps lets them explore their witchcraft and see the consquences of their actions. Very good show!
I bought this off the internet after reading reviews off other websites thinking that this will not impress me. After watching it, this film has become my favourite halloween film yet. Michael Myers is back and he wants revenge. Transported from a high security prison, Myers escapes the van and heads to Haddonfield for Halloween. One man who knows what myers is capable of is Dr Loomis (Donald Pleasence) who heads there himself to seek out this monster. However Dr Loomis knows only too well Michael Myers is too quick and clever to be caught. Halloween fans and horror fans watch this.
This film was said to inspire films such as the Halloween series and this can be seen straight from the begginning. Friday the 13th is set at Crystal Lake camp in America where a young boy named jason Vorhees drowned in the lake. Years later the camp is re-opened and the new camp leaders arrive. A series of shocking events start to occur. Will the Leaders survive. Who will survive. If like horror films then friday 13th is for you. Watch this.
If you loved meet the parents, then this film is for you. Meet fockers is all about the meeting of the Byrnes family and the fockers. Starring great actors such as Robert Deniro, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand and Ben Stiller this film is a must see. The film is set mostly at the fockers home where a series of hilarious events occur. Im not going to say anymore as this film is a must see. As i said at the start, If you loved meet the parents then meet the fockers is a must buy.
starring Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans, White Chicks is a hiarious comedy about two coloured police officers who are given the case to protect two supermodels. There is an unforseen accident and the Wayans brothers have to disguise themselves as the two models. This is what makes the film so good is the sheer humor and effort that has been put into this film. Personally this film put me in stitches for ages. Its too funny to miss. If you like comedy then watch this film.
The incredibles is one of pixars funniest and most ingenious films to date. It is well animated and the story line is great. The ideas that pixar have inserted into this animated tale are amazing. Its completely unexpected of what the turn of events lead to. The humour is also extremly funny and suitable for all ages. If you like animated films buy this dvd because its too good to be missed.
this dvd is excellent, all but for one thing i have watched four copies of this dvd,and there is a fault on the soundtrack which is being masked by the default to dts soundtrack that everyone is talking about.I have a DTS compatiable player and every copy play fine in DTS mode until chapter 12 there is audio dropout on the song 'STRANGER THAN YOU DREAMT IT'.(44.04)in to the film .The word 'DARE'is not heard, the same fault occurs in 5.1,but is heard in surround sound.I have contacted the andrew lloyd webber really useful group web site, and they agree that there is a fault, and they say it has been corrected for the second run.But i don,t know how to obtain a second run copy. FRUSTRATED P.O.T.O. FAN.
