John Lennon and Yoko Ono appeared on The Dick Cavett Show three times. Clearly they enjoyed their time with Cavett as these television interviews stand out as their most relaxed and in-depth. They even cast him in one of their films. The September 11 1971 show is notable as the first American television interview John gave after the breakup of The Beatles. So comfortable were the Lennons that after the show was over they continued talking with Cavett. The additional portions of that first interview were shown as part of The Dick Cavett Show on September 24 1971. During that visit they'd discussed coming back and giving a live performance. True to there word for their appearance on Cavett's show on May 11 1972 they returned with Elephants Memory and each sang one song.
'I'm not in love' 'Rubber Bullets' and 'Dreadlock Holiday' - Classic tracks from one of the most interesting and talented bands to ever grace the world of music are all included in this live collection of songs alongside new tracks and presented on DVD for the very first time. 10cc were formed in 1972 with the line up of Eric Stewart Graham Gouldman Kevin Godley and Lol Creme. The rulebook was thrown out of the window as their unrivalled songs injected with sharp wit and lyrical dexterity plucked melodies and subject matter from previously undiscovered waters to turn the band both into chart regulars and darlings of the critics. They were one of many bands dubbed at the time as 'the new Beatles' - but unlike most of the others 10cc actually came close to the Fab Four in terms of hits and quality. After Godley and Creme left in 1976 Eric and Graham decided to carry on as 10cc and were augmented by amongst others guitarist Rick Fenn and drummer Paul Burgess. And the hits kept on coming. Then after years of lying dormant while they all pursued other ventures Graham Gouldman along with Fenn Burgess Mick Wilson and Mike Stevens has taken to the road again as '10cc featuring Graham Gouldman and friends'. This DVD includes two appearances that Kevin Godley made as one of the 'friends' at a gig in Cardiff - when he graced the stage for the first time in almost 30 years and again at the landmark Shepherd's Bush Empire show in London. The set list on the DVD includes no fewer than 17 hit songs including some written by Graham for other artists including the Yardbird's For Your Love and the Hollies' Bus Stop .The DVD ""Clever Clogs"" also features original artwork and an interview from the originator of all of 10cc's best known album artwork the legendary designer and founder of Hipnosis Storm Thorgerson. In some ways The Old Grey Whistle Test Volume 2 is more interesting than its predecessor, as it covers the show's enjoyably uncomfortable period of transition from beard-rock to punk/new wave. Hence, the music ranges across the likes of Loggins and Messina (the frightful "The House at Pooh Corner"), the Who, Judee Sill, Argent (doing "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You", which all Bill and Ted fans probably think is a Kiss original), Roy Harper, the Adverts, the Undertones (not playing "Teenage Kicks", sadly), Patti Smith and Siouxie and the Banshees. There's also some arty stuff that doesn't really fit into either camp, including Kevin Ayers and Roxy Music at their uncommercially weirdest. There are a few nicely revelatory moments, too, such as the realisation that Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive" was in fact a nu-jazz masterpiece born 20 years too soon and that Robbie Williams should cover Aztec Camera's wonderful "Walk Out to Winter" immediately. This is an enjoyable and diverse collection of music from a fairly fraught period in the history of more-or-less popular music, so it's good to be reminded just how much good stuff was actually happening amidst the melée. On the DVD: The Old Grey Whistle Test 2 comes on only one disc (the first was a two-disc set), but you still get 30 or so excellent tracks plus all the trimmings, so that's hardly a fault. The layout features the same kind of horribly overdesigned menus as its predecessor: there's no obvious chapter sub-menu, believe it or not; instead, you have to access individual tracks through the artists' gallery in the extras section! Aargh! Other extras include contributor profiles, additional linking material and the wonderful Old Grey Squirrel Test animation, which mere words would only spoil for those who have yet to see it. --Roger Thomas

Revolutionary. Political. These two words sum up the Clash's classic double album London Calling. Tracks such as ""Spanish Bombs"" ""London Calling"" and ""The Guns Of Brixton"" explore the band's familiar themes of working class rebellion and define the album. Yet this is more than a simple punk-era rallying call as the album combines an eclectic array of styles. This review features rare performances alongside interviews with the legendary filmmaker/DJ Don Letts who toured with T
Once upon a time, you couldn't turn on MTV without seeing Motley Crue videos in heavy rotation. For those still-loyal fans, this compilation brings back the good old days. From the band's 1982 debut, Too Fast for Love, to 2000's New Tattoo, these 21 videos hit on every phase of the Crue's career: they began as a Kiss wannabe, became huge arena-rockers, then stumbled through new singers and drummers before returning to the original lineup. No real fan will go wrong with this hit list, including much time-capsule material: "Girls Girls Girls", "Dr. Feelgood", and "Home Sweet Home" contain big hair, makeup, tight pants--and that's just the band. Bonuses include six "alternate" videos, including the X-rated version of "Girls" (showing barely more than Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl); 50 minutes of bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee discussing making the clips; and Easter eggs with more hidden videos. The sound, nominally mixed in 5.1 Dolby Surround, is actually quite tame for such hard-hitting music. --Kevin Filipski
