Chris Farlowe has been astounding audiences with his incredible vocal style for over fifty years now. In 1955 he won the UK skiffle competition as The John Henry Skiffle Group. This launched him on the long running career that has now culminated in this his first DVD. In 1966 Mick Jagger came to Chris Farlowe with a song he had written with Keith Richards that sent Chris to the coveted number one spot. 'Out of Time' is the quintessential sixties pop record and is one of the most played oldies on radio today. Since 1990 Chris Farlowe has regularly recorded new albums every two or three years including 'Waiting in the Wings' 'The Voice' 'Glory Bound' and most recently 'Farlowe That'. In 1995 Colosseum one of Farlowe's former bands reformed and have also recorded new albums. He tours incessantly packing in over 100 concerts every year either with his own band featured here on this DVD Colosseum or as a guest of Van Morrison. After fifty years Chris Farlowe has most definitely lost none of his power or feel the evidence can be seen in this concert which was recorded for the famous Rockpalast in Bonn Germany on March 22nd 2006. • Snoop Doggy Dogg - Murder Was The Case - The Movie [1994]Snoop Doggy Dogg - Murder Was The Case - The Movie | DVD | (01/09/2002) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £15.99

He may have been usurped in recent years but, during the period detailed in Murder Was the Case, Snoop Doggy Dogg was the last word in gangsta rap. As with the new boy on the block Eminem, the power behind Snoop's throne was undoubtedly producer Dr Dre, and he is to be found included in nearly as much of the documentary footage as the rapper himself. These sit alongside a selection of music videos and clips from live television performances. While not exactly in-depth, a few of the interviews do try and scratch beneath the surface of the gangsta veneer (when asked if he is a violent man, the reply is a slightly chilling "when I have to be"), a marked contrast to the clips of the proud father and baby son. The videos are the usual mix of edgy urban funk and street style, coupled with the by-now rather tired visual imagery. The short film from which the package takes its title takes these concepts to an uncensored conclusion, a tasteless and crass work indulging in explicit scenes of violence, drug taking and misogyny. On the DVD: A brief inclusion of two extra video clips, as well as an animated interactive menu and scene selector. The stereo sound quality is suitably booming.--Phil Udell

What's left to be said about Deep Purple? Together with Led Zeppelin The Who and Black Sabbath they are considered the fathers of heavy rock and to some the creators of heavy metal. One of the symbols of the seventies or as they often say... a legend. The line up called MK2 (Blackmore-Lord-Paice-Gillan-Glover) released albums that are milestones of rock: In Rock Machine Head and Fireball. Gillan and Glover left after the release of Who Do We Think We Are. Deep Purple decided to continue and entered one of the most controversial exciting and extreme phases of their career. Back then unknown vocalist David Coverdale (later superstar of his own band Whitesnake) and bass player Glenn Hughes joined the band. The following albums Burn and Stormbringer showed they could maintain the same levels of the previous incarnation of the band and reached the classic album status. When Blackmore decided to leave the band they surprisingly decided to continue recruiting guitarist Tommy Bolin. They released the great album Come Taste The Band and played in front of immensely large audiences at the peak of their glamourous lives... until excesses affected the band and Bolin tragically died of a heroin overdose. Deep Purple were then officially split up. In 1984 Deep Purple reformed with the original line-up featuring Gillan and Glover yet although a lot had happened since then the band is still touring the world and remains one of the most important names in rock history. It would be a big mistake to ignore the great music that Deep Purple produced between 1972 and 1976. Rises Over Japan: 30 minute-long live footage filmed in 16mm in Japan restored in HD. Never before released not even on bootlegs. Originally planned to be included in a Deep Purple film the short movie was never released after Tommy Bolin's death. If it wasn't known the show is from 1976 the stunning video quality would make the viewer believe this is a production filmed with the most modern HD cameras. Getting Tighter: The full length 90 minute documentary of the story behind Deep Purple after Ian Gillan and Roger Glover's departures. Jon Lord and Glenn Hughes tell the story of the post Gillan years through never before seen live images backstage footage never before told stories and original video material collected through years of hard work. A real dream come true for all Deep Purple fans. New inside stories and the truths about the dark sides of Deep Purple with the rise and fall of their seventies years will really grab fans.
