No Doubt: The Videos 1992-2003 is a neat showcase of the band's transformation (both musically and in image) spanning more than a decade. Behind-the-scenes footage of photo and video shoots and studio sessions recorded on hand-held DV cams by band members are interspersed between the 16 videos in this collection. Videos range from their first-ever shoot for 1992's quirky "Trapped in a Box", in which Gwen had yet to discover the power of platinum blonde, the storming "Hella Good" cowritten by the Neptunes, and their cover of the Talk Talk hit "It's My Life". Something to watch out for is an impromptu jam of "Ex-girlfriend" during a power cut in Jamaica. When it comes to reinvention and experimenting with style, forget Kylie--Gwen Stefani has certainly had fun carving out her own niche, while retaining her credibility; from the pink hair and street chic in her Return of Saturn phase to the platinum-blonde, rouge-lipped 1940s glamour that was her trademark on Tragic Kingdom. Although they may have taken some musical risks ("Oi to the World"?) their core rock, new wave pop and reggae-lite influences have weaved seamlessly through their work. 2001's Rock Steady is a fine example, heavily influenced by time spent in Jamaican dance halls and with contributions from a range of respected producers (Ric Ocasek, Nellee Hooper, Sly & Robbie and William Orbit). Not to mention No Doubt's successful cameos on Moby's "South Side" and Eve's "Let Me Blow Ya Mind". What becomes apparent from watching "A Video Conversation with No Doubt"--one of the bonus features--is the band's sense of team spirit and un-showbiz attitudes, which is probably why they have lasted the course. But their success is not without glitches--there were early group factions when media interest focused on the impossibly photogenic Gwen and ignored fellow bandmates Tony Kanal (bass), Tom Dumont (guitar) and Adrian Young (drums). On the DVD: Bonus features include "A Video Conversation with No Doubt" where the band members talk about the inspiration behind each video, the full collection of Behind-the-Scenes Vignettes, an alternate edit of "Bathwater" and alternate video edit of "Don't Speak".--Angela Boodoo

Carlo Maria Giulini: The Classic Archive
Kylie Minogue concludes her On a Night Like This tour with an unashamed pop extravaganza on home ground in Sydney, performing to a huge audience which these days consists of more adults than teenagers. Kylie has undoubtedly matured over the years, too, and--apart from a brief stint believing she could become a "serious" artist--appears perfectly happy in her role as the Princess of Pop. Kylie fulfils different roles for different groups within the audience: for females it's all about adulation--rediscovering her childlike appeal like a long-lost friend; the men are offered a fantasy figure--the camera drawn like a magnet to her derrière for 20 per cent of the concert; and she simultaneously manages to be a gay icon, without becoming overtly camp. The joy of Kylie is that she has become all things to all people, offered up in a perfectly petite package. It's clear that the years of work as a performer have paid off, her vocals are much stronger now with a real sense of professionalism, and just to prove this she performs two old favourites as serious pieces, "I Should Be So Lucky" is offered as a ballad and "Better the Devil You Know" is transported to Shirley Bassey territory, allowing Kylie to prove her vocal range. In true show-stopping style we're offered a multitude of costume changes: from hot-pant mania to refined suits and rock-chick leather, Kylie inevitably appears looking great; although the same cannot be said for her backing dancers, whose outfits are often laughable, with all the style of a school play costume. Despite the many faces of Kylie on display here, pop stardom does not appear to have changed her girl-next-door image--Kylie remains in our hearts a true "neighbour". On the DVD: This music disc is like Kylie, perfectly packaged in every way. The menu is beautifully laid out (even though the images offer an excess of cleavage) with a great range of easily accessible options. You can choose simply to play the concert straight in its pristine 16:9 anamorphic screen ratio or you can select your favourite songs from the track selection option; you can visit Kylie backstage or watch the great music video for "Spinning Around". The set-up has a choice of PCM Stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS 5.0 and a wide range of subtitles, along with the option to be pointed backstage at relevant points in the concert to get the full Kylie experience. --Nikki Disney

Taped as a lavish cable television special in 1997, One Night Only trades on the Bee Gees' shape-shifting career as pop survivors. Over the course of 111 minutes, this straightforward concert, produced at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and groomed for both video and CD posterity, sprints through 31 songs from their past three decades. Even after the inevitable disco jokes are expended, and the jaundiced viewer contemplates the role hats, hairspray, and comb-overs now play in dressing the once stylishly long-haired troika, the Gibb brothers' signature vocal harmonies and hook-laden song craft beg respect.Casual listeners can't be blamed for equating the Bee Gees with the dance floor bonanza they reaped through 1978's Saturday Night Fever, yet that commercial zenith was actually the culmination of a comeback for a group that had seemed washed up by the early 1970s. One Night Only thankfully takes an even-handed view of both their original late 1960s hits ("Massachusetts", "To Love Somebody", "Lonely Days"), building from a cannily Beatle-browed vocal sound, and the 1970s blue-eyed soul ("Jive Talkin'", "Nights on Broadway") that led them naturally into disco. The Fever hits are here, as are Gibb originals that clicked for other acts; the family circle also widens for a posthumous duet with their late brother, Andy Gibb, while Celine Dion gets star billing in the collaborative "Immortality". --Sam Sutherland
